The g/f turned off her emachines d2880 and now it will not turn back on. I've changed the power supply with a good one, and only the LED on motherboard lights up. with the power supply hooked up to motherboard none of the connectors show a good voltage but it works fine in another computer.

Sounds like either a short, or misconfigured cable connection.

Sometimes this problem happens when your CMOS battery already dead. Replace the CMOS battery and run F4 to setup the date and time. Save it and you back to business.

Well, you are right the power supply is good. But the power isn't enough to support your system. My advise, you have to change your power supply to "real power type". The price is more than the normal type even if it is the sama rating.

One problem, followed by another, followed by another

it seams that the motherboard has some power problems. Check on the motherboard for burned or blackened components, or for capacitors that are looking like they are going to blow (inflated on the top), u can do the same to the power supply.
If so change it !
Also maybe the power of the house has problems that the computers power supply cant handle (that can ruin the motherboard or other components )
U can also try to isolate the motherboard from the case (there might be a short between the motherboard and the power supply through the case metal ... )
