I need to get into my computer, but I forgot the password

My computer runs Windows XP Professional, I need to know the password to get in, but it has been so long since I last used it (years in fact) I forgot the password to sign in.    I looked into it and found SourceForge's OphCrack to download. I got it and burned the file onto a CD-ROM (from the source where I was linked to SourceForge it said to place the file onto a CD and place it into the PC before boot-up).    However, when I started up my PC, nothing happened. It still asked for a password I didn't know anymore. Please help!

No, I can't get into safe mode, the option doesn't appear in the boot menu.

When you system is booting I would suggest you get into the setup (most are the DEL key or F2) and set the boot order so that the CDROM drive is first in the boot order. Then reboot with the CDROM in the drive.

That should allow you to get booted to the SourceForge's OphCrack disk.

Forgot your windows logon password????????

So you forgot your Windows XP password? Don't worry - it happens to the rest of us. We're supposed to make secure, difficult-to-guess passwords but sometimes we make them so complicated that we forget them ourselves!

Answer: There are many ways to find a Windows XP password that you forgot!

Try To Guess the Windows XP Password You Forgot
Don't laugh! You'd be surprised how often this works. Before we jump into any high tech recovery methods, try your hardest to remember what your XP password may have been.
Most passwords, even complicated ones, are often inspired by the people, places and things in our personal and professional lives.
Could your Windows XP password have had anything to do with:
  • your name?
  • the name of a friend or family member?
  • a loved one's birthday?
  • your home or office address?
  • a pet's name?
  • a favorite food?
  • a frequently dialed telephone number?
  • something from your childhood?
  • a combination of any of the above?
Use Your Windows XP Password Reset Disk
Assuming you were proactive and created a Windows XP password reset disk at some point in the past, use it at the XP logon screen to change your password.
Your password reset disk will still work even if you've changed your Windows XP password since creating the disk.
Have Another User Change Your XP Password For You
If there are other users that have accounts on your computer, one of them may be setup with administrator level access. This means that the user would be able to change your Windows XP password for you from within his or her account.

Hack Your Windows XP Account With a Password Recovery Program
If you've given it your best shot but that all-important Windows XP password is still hiding somewhere in your mind, then it's time to try something a bit more technical.
Windows password recovery tools are software programs designed to recover or reset/delete your Windows XP password. They can sometimes be difficult to use but if there's no hope of remembering the password and you can follow some simple directions, Windows password recovery tools are life savers.

Still Can't Find Your Windows XP Password?
If you still can't locate your password, even after using the free Windows password recovery programs linked above, you will need to perform a clean install of Windows XP which will erase everything on your PC.
It's drastic and destructive step but Windows XP is serious about security.

Forgot Windows 7 Password - What Should You Do to Log on Your Computer?

Just as Tom Hanks said in the famous movie Forrest Gump, "Life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you gonna get." As a Microsoft Windows version launched for only 9 months, Windows 7 has overtaken Windows vista in global market share according to California-based Net Applications. It moves up to the second place in the Microsoft's OS, with 14.46 percent of the global market last month compared to Vista's 14.43 percent.

As a common PC user, I don't know whether Windows 7 will surpass Windows XP, which still has a lion's share of users worldwide after released for 9 years. I also don't know when Windows 7 will pass Windows XP if it is able to overtake. But as a common PC user often forgetting Windows password, I do know some ways to log on computer again if one forgot Windows 7 password.

The most well-known method is to create a password reset disk in advance. And when you forgot Windows 7 password, you can reset Windows 7 password with the disk and log on your computer again. The steps to create a password reset disk and how to use the disk to reset forgotten Windows password are available on Microsoft official website and various PC forums. Note: What key is pressed to enter BIOS depends on the manufacturers, but in most cases it is F2 or Delete.

Step 4: Remove the forgotten Windows password.

Important: After selecting n to restart computer, please remember to press any press, and then take the burned USB flash drive out of computer.

After the above simple steps, your forgotten Windows password is removed so that you can log on your computer without password. How do i reset my windows xp password if i have forgotten it

Forgot Windows XP password? The first thing which you check is whether you forgot windows xp login password or not. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forgot your user account password then try this:
Start system and when you See Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys Twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.
Windows XP and further versions also provide another method to recover forgotten Password by using "Reset Disk". If you created a Password Reset Disk in past, you can use that disk to reset the password. Or try free program called Ophcrack or Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0.

I forgot my Windows XP (professional) password! I did remember, but what to do if I didn't? I used to know, but had not beenup to date on geekish issues. I know it is hard, buty any suggestions?

Try this it might help

Turn on the computer, as soon as it comes on start pressing the F8 key. Keep pressing the key, eventually you will get to a window that will give you the option of going into windows in safe mode or different other modes, Choose safe mode.

Now when you get to the windows logon just choose the administrator account, go into control panel, user accounts and click on change an account. the one you forgot the password for should be there. if it is, just click on delete password. reboot and windows wont ask for a password for the account.

If that helps let me know. if it doesnt give you the administrator option at windows logon then let me know and i will get you the solution
