I have a Panasonic MiniDV, when I want to record or view my tape the message "tape not inserted" appears even though my tape is in. The response I got was the tape sensor is not working. How do I fix this problem?

  • kehau219 Nov 23, 2008

Is there a specific area I should focus on?

  • kehau219 Nov 23, 2008

comment by fixyy states to change the menu settings back to initial set. I do not see this as an option. Could I have more info?

  • kehau219 Nov 23, 2008

someone suggested that I clean the parts with alcohol. Do you think it is worth trying? If so, do you know which areas to focus on or avoid?

  • kehau219 Nov 23, 2008

yurid316 suggests I try cleaning the lens sensor, can you tell me where this is?

Hi,

Depending on the actual model of your camcorder and therefore its design, most sensors would be a small lever/tab that is pushed down when the bottom of the cassette presses on it. This then activates a small switch that tells the camcorder that a tape is in. In some instances, the tabl/lever could be mis-aligned and therefore the cassette would not be pressing on it. In some other cases, this tabl/lever could be broken. Yet in some other, it is the switch that could be faulty.

Whatever the probable cause, the unit has to be opened for a look & see. This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Your tape sensor that tells the camcorder that a tape has been inserted is probably broken or the cord that leads from it is probably broken. I would not advise working on it yourself as getting to the area where the tape sensor is located to see if that is the problem could cause you to mess up something else and cause a bigger problem to occur and you will not be able to use it any more. You will have to take it to a repair shop and let them look at it and let them repair it.

You most likely cannot do this your self as qualified repair shops can only get these parts and it is extremely difficult to work on these , to even know what has failed will need testing because it may not be the sensor and may be a digital chip that failing or the circuit that controls the sensors
if you do not know what you are doing then I would suggest you take it to an electronic repair shop

Your tape is struck inside thats why you are getting message that tape is not inserted .
It is not able to move properly .
Hand strap may be tight loosening the hand strap will allow the tape carriage to move properly again.
If this doesnot work you need to replace carriage mechanism .

Well you can try a couple of things yourself at home. Use compressed air to blow out any debris in the camcorder then you can clean the interior out with a solder/component safe electronics cleaner. Some folks simply use a q-tip and alcohol(denatured)not the good stuff to clean any visible components. Do this with the camcorder unplugged of course. You may be able to get the device to work again like this. It is worth a try at least. If not a repair tech can replace the part cheaply at any electronics repair store. Good Luck

I constantly get this message-"re-insert

No. The timing cam is misaligned. The carriage is suppose to accept the tape, and when you close the door, it pulls the tape from the carriage towards the head and drive the take-up reel to the supply reel as the head reads or plays back the tape. If the timing cam is misaligned, it will not accept the tape and thus you get the error message.

Please let me know more about the message, go down further below if there is a numeric code like "03" or "02" etc. Because If it is because of condensation tape can be ejected. Please wait message also appear when you inserted a high capacity SD Card and you are switching from REC to Play and every time you switch cam on, the bigger capacity the longer you will wait, i suggest remove it when not needed. Please give as more details if none of the mention above solves your problem.

Sony DCR-TRV460 not playing back, blue screen

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if a blue screen is displayed when attempting to playback video from the camcorder.
  1. Stop the tape.
  2. Ensure the tape has been rewound to the beginning of the video recording.
  3. Play the tape.
  4. If the issue is not resolved, stop the tape and remove it from the camcorder.
  5. Clean the video heads of the camcorder using a dry head cleaning cassette.IMPORTANT: Follow the instructions for use provided with the head cleaning cassette. It may be necessary to use the head cleaning cassette more than once per session.
  6. Reinsert the tape into the camcorder.
  7. Play the tape.
  8. If the issue is not resolved, stop the tape and remove it from the camcorder.
  9. Insert a different tape with video footage into the camcorder.
  10. Ensure the tape has been rewound to the beginning of the video recording.
  11. Play the tape.
NOTES:
  • If a blue screen is still displayed, then the camcorder may require service .
  • If the tape plays back correctly, then the first tape may be faulty or there is a problem with the video recording.

"Re-attach the power source" but tape is stuck, door open

I had the same problem. First, depress the reset button, located on the camera body (where the LCD screen closes over it). It is hard to see at first. It is important that the camera be set to the OFF position. When the camera is whirring after the reset, then hit the EJECT button so the tape comes out. Take the tape out and insert it back. That's it. My camcorder worked fine and let me record or plaback once I followed those steps.

if you havent found a solution already, basically it means your camera is screwed up and has dirt or something inside it. so you have to take it to a service centre. :)
