Harsh noise in downloading tocomputer

I have a digital recorder vn-480 pc and it has been fine for a long time. But now when I download the recording to a computer( the recording on the recorder is fine) there is included in the recording an intermittant and sporadic harsh interference noise that makes it impossible to use. What is the cause of this and how can I eliminate it.

I have already tried this, even downloading it onto a different computer, has made no difference. I think that the problem is to do with the recorder itself although I am puzzled that there is no problem in the actual playback of the recording on the recorder only if I try to say it to disc

I use a Sony, but I'm gonna guess you download via a USB cable with a mini on one end and a regular on the other.

The noise sounds like a bad solder joint on either the USB in port of your PC you've been using and try another port. One on the back is likely to have full power while some front side USB ports don't have full power believe it or not.

Then you do have to swap USB cables. If you don't have another mini to normal, borrow one from a Cell Phone, they're often the same, especially the Motorola Razor which I can speak to specifically.

If after trying another backside USB port and another cable then it is the USB out on the Recorder. Then you have to have it serviced, under warranty is good but if you are out of warranty you may want to buy another for the cost of these things today.

What brand you get if you want to is up to you, but the Sony line is good and I can speak to the quality of the omnidirectional mic on my an SX25 from Sony.

Hope this helps you out with a roadmap to troubleshooting your problem. Sorry, there isn't any quick trick that can fix this.

You might have moved the location of your comuter where it is interacting with high frequency signal which is interupting the recording voice, either you have to change the loacation of computer and in case its happening with all the computers then ist the recording device which is missing the earth/ground in the device.

Any further info contact me.

It sounds like you have a problem with the cable, try a replacement cable.

Firstly you need to fine out what file extention the file is, for example .mp3 .voc .mp4 etc. This because the media player on the computer may not recognise the file and the computer may need codecs to play: XP codec pack here: http://www.xpcodecpack.com/download
Vista  codecs here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Codec-Packs-Video-Codecs/Advanced-Vista-Codec-Package.shtml
If these codecs don't work you may need to convert the file to another, for example mp4 to avi. all to avi converter here: http://www.brothersoft.com/newlive-all-to-avi-vcd-dvd-converter-58591.html

hope this helps and good luck

Are there drivers available to download from a VN-480-PC to a MAC? Or any other way to transfer file format to work on a MAC? Thanks! Tony

Hi

the voice recorder should work instantly when plugged into the mac, it should show up as a removable stroage device, or a removable drive, like any other external hard drive or usb stick would on a mac.

you don't need a driver to transfer or listen to the recordings from the recorder on a mac.

I recorded meeting minutes to my digital OLYMPUS VN-480 PC voice recorder and want to transfer the recording on it to my Dell Inspirion/1100 laptop. Could I transfer the audio from the headphone jack to...

Hello,

yes, it is possible. You will connect the earphone jack from your voice recorder to Mic of your laptop. Then you will be needing a wave software on your laptop, download the wave software from the internet, open the wave file, then press play on your voice recorder and the minutes will be recorded into your laptop as a wave files.

But the easiest method of tranferring the minutes is by using the usb cable of your OLYMPUS VN-480 PC voice recorder. If you don't have it you can purchase it, then connect it from your OLYMPUS VN-480 PC voice recorder to the usb of your computer and it will be read like a flash drive.

After that, go to my computer and you will see a drive representing the OLYMPUS VN-480 PC voice recorder, open the drive and you will see your minutes, then simply create a folder on your computer, and copy, paste the minutes into the created folder. And the would be all.

God luck.
