Go to Start, Control Panels, Administrative Tools, Services.
Windows 2000: Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.
Right click on the print spooler and select Properties.
Click on Dependencies to view a list of all the system components that the print spooler depends on.
Under Services, go to each of these dependencies and check the properties. In each case, ensure that the Startup type is set to Automatic, and that the Service status is set to Started.

Try resetting your print spooler que and restarting service. You can download a batch script to do this automatically. Reset Printer Spooler Tool for Windows Vista 7 and 8 Appuals

If this doesn't works, then try to reconnect your printer to the router and add it back to the computer.

I can't install my Brother MFC6490CW printer onto

All these three methods involve some specific code in the printer drivers both in Print server and clients.

Not all printers will have drivers that will support all 3 ways of using the printer. It appears that not all printer drivers, written for Windows Vista. If you can't get your network printer, please try the following steps to bypass the LPT redirection. 1. Install the Vista printer driver on your Windows Vista computer.
2. During installation, you'll be prompted to connect the printer to your computer. Choose the option to proceed with installation without connecting the printer.
3. After installation completes, open the Printers wizard from the Windows Vista Control Panel.
4. Right click on the entry for the new printer, and choose Properties.
5. Go to the Ports tab.
6. Click Add Port, select Local Port, then click New Port.
7. For the port name, enter the network path and share name of your printer ("\\TheirComputer\TheirPrinter1").
8. Click OK, and verify that the new port is selected.
9. Click OK to close the printer properties.

Error message: printer is not communicating with computer. After installing setup disc, still receiving that message.

Hi,
Assumption that installation is completed without any errors.

Now follow the steps to find the reason for getting communication error:

Click on the start menu in that click Control Panel.
Now look for Administrative Tools and open it.
Double-click on Services.
Now go through the list and check for "Print Spooler". It should say "started" under STATUS, and "automatic" under STARTUP TYPE.
If it isn't started, the computer doesn't know what to do when it's trying to send a doc to the printer.
So, right click on the print spooler and select PROPERTIES.
In the drop down box for startup type, select "Automatic" and click apply.

This should work.
If you still face the problem do reinstall, make sure you uninstall the software using the "uninstall" option, either in the control panel, or on the installation CD that came with the printer; don't just delete folders. Then reinstall the software.
Sometimes a file just gets corrupted, for some reason, and this will fix that.

Hope this helps.

Compaq computer running vista trying to add a printer message local print spooler is not running I have started the print spooler through admin tools but everytime I close the control panel it must switch...

Start the simple route: uninstall and reinstall the printer and its software. If the software is old, head to the printer manufacturer's website and download the latest driver package.
Meanwhile, track back to when the print spooler worked successfully. Was there any new software installed that may have caused the problem? A possible update from Windows, perhaps?

Unable to get network connections to come up and printer spooler is not allowing to add printers. I recently purchased a aircard from sprint and the service went down and I was asked to install a smartview...

Hello ladynwaiting,

Try uninstalling the smartview software to see if network connections and the print spooler are working with the aircard. If that doesn't work then remove the aircard and reinstall it. Test the connections and print spooler again. The procedure works to reset the components. Finally, if that works, then install the smartview software and retest the connections and spooler. Hopefully your system will repond favorably to the above procedure.

I thank you for giving a rating to this solution if it has been helpful.

Have a great day,

Print spooler service not running on Windows XP

Spooler depends on the RPC service being running. But you really need to get into event viewer and check for anything related to either RPC or Print Spooler. If you're trying to print to a network printer you could have firewall issues either within Windows or your router. Think about what changed on your system around the time this problem began.
