I removed back of set and fuse is fine,,however now I can hear the click and it seams to be comeing from a part that I believe is called a FLYBACK,,,saw this on other posts on this web site,,,,would that be the 3 blink power button problem?

Hi,

Check the flyback if burned. I you decide to replace it,the small wires are disconnected at the focus and screen control block, and the large HV cable is disconnected from the HV splitter.you may have to reuse the large red wire if the new flyback doesnt have the HV lead attached. The Hot is the horizontal output transistor its mounted to a aluminum heat sink near the flyback. Try check also the tv lamp if working.... Please dont rate me if not satisfied..Thank you....

This indicates that you have a faulty capacitor on power supply board . You need to check for the faulty capacitor on the board . Also chance of bad soldering .

There is most likely a failure in the standby circuit and it will need testing to find the culprit
can you do some tests with a meter? or solder components?
if so I can help you determine the problem , but you may end up having to replace a board because of parts that are not available and only RCA has them and only will sell the board , not the parts
can you do this or will you need to call an electronic repair shop to have a tech come out and do the repair ?

the clicking sound that you hear is the relay switch on the power section , this could be a bad horizontal output or bad or poor solder or even a failing flyback , but some tests will need to be done to find the exact cause , can you resolder or check some components?

  • jason Nov 23, 2008

the repair will cost from $200 to $350 depending on the cause of the problem , if it is just a component then probably not to much but if a board or more exspensive part has to be replaced then about the 350 it will cost to do the repair

yes you can check it for continuity , but remember that the flyback also sends power to other parts of the circuitry

but before you do that look for any pr's ( pico fuses) that might be open

then look for solder that might be bad

after that check for capacitors that are not working correctly ( to do this put the meter on the highest resistor setting to see if you get a reading , if not, replace it)( this will not work with larger capacitors though)

then check the horizontal output transistor and the components around the horizontal

also check components around the vertical IC and its components

then let me know the results of those tests

you should also do this to make sure there is not a problem with the power in

test the loptx ( low output transformer) for no voltage , low voltage , voltage drop on plug in and standby volts

I have a RCA D61W20 chassis ITC222, I had the same problem and my repair guy found out the blue bulb was the main problem, along with replacing some transisters on one of the power boards, He also had to adjust the service convergence (not auto convergence). Works great now!
