If I remember, most of the 9 pin dot matrix printers used either a 25 pin serial, or a centronix cable which terminated into a 25 pin for the PC side. They do make a USB to Centronix cable. I cannot guarantee it will work if your trying to use anything other than a PCL language for your print jobs.
On the back of the printer where the cable connects is actually a 36 pin connector, the end going to the computer is the 25pin end. What you will need to do is get a USB to parallel cable, they run $15-25, this will have the USB plug on one end and the 36pin centronix printer connection on the other end. This cable will allow your printer to be connected to the laptop. Office Depot and Staples should have the cable you need, if not you can do a google search for it and order one online.
I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.
Your software still is looking for the 25 printer pin connection from the motherboard. I don't know computer set up from an engineering concept, but I do know that the usb connection you purchased doesn't work with that software. You'll need to either get the new software or a used computer with the printer port hook up.
