Question about Yamaha KX-393 Cassette Deck Dual Cassette Deck
As the tape progresses the sound quality gradually deteriorates.best way to describe it-like the computer HAL in 2001 SPACE ODESSY when dave is turning it off
SOURCE: I have a Kenwood KX
The flywheel belt would have broken or gone slack and fallen off the motor pulley. You can confirm this by opening the top and looking inside. If you can shake the machine holding it upside down the belt might even fall off.Replacing the belt is a tricky job. Its like putting back a bicycle chain except there is a metal plate behind the flywheel and your hand won't go there.

Testimonial: "Thanks, so much for your reply. Might you know of a repair place in NYC?"
To connect your cassette player to your receiver, you may have to use an RCA-type of plug (you know, the red & white plugs on both ends.

There is no instruction on how to put belts in a deck other than a parts break down of kind of where they go. A seasoned Technician would not need this but a Service Manual is always the best place to start.
The Belt kit can be ordered from Marrs Communication and that will take the responsibility of sizing and then ordering the correct belts. The goo can be removed with denatued alcohol or Ammonia. I have always used alcohol and it is not a pleasant job for anyone.
