Kenmore 51552102 side by side ice maker not working

First it wouldn't stop making ice, even when switched off. Now it won't make ice. The tray is full and frozen. Switch has been turned back to the on position. Indications of some frozen water on the left side of the freezer beginning from the icemaker, to the rear of the optical door. Suggestions?

SOURCE: Ice maker water wont shut off continues to run even when tray is full

The ice maker water fill solenoid may be leaking by and needs to be replaced. If you disconnect the water line from the solenoid and you see it continues to flow water then that valve is not seating properly. Another slight possiblility is the ice maker motor module gear is stuck in the fill position. See the attached link for a diagram. If the geared wheel just happens to get stopped in the "fill" position it will fill with full force water. If there is only a trickle of water then the soleinoid valve is the more likely source of the problem. http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/Maytag/AA56-20.gif http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/Maytag/AA56-16.gif

SOURCE: icemaker not making ice

First thing to check is to see if the optics are working properly. This is the red flashing light on right hand side of freezer wall. Close the flipper door, be sure not to block the beam, and the light should go to solid red. If it does then the optics are ok. If it continues to blink then that is your problem. If optics check ok then pull ice maker out and remove the white plastic cover. It just pulls off. Look at the center of the gear wheel and see if one of the plastic tabs is either broken or if they are sort of twisted and touching eachother. If any of these things with the gear have happened then that module will need to be replaced along with the ice maker thermostat. If your not sure how to replace these parts then just replace the whole ice maker. That is much easier and not much more costly.
After changing the parts or the ice maker out follow these steps to start the ice maker thru a cycle. 1. Remove the ice maker from the cradle but leave the harness connected. Remove the front cover from the module. Unplug the refrigerator. Get a small jumper wire with bare ends and jump T and H on the module, leave the jumper in and set the ice maker on the shelf. Close the door. Now plug the refer back in and wait 30 seconds. Open the door and the ice-maker should be cycling. Remove the jumper, put the module cover back on and set it back in the cradle. The fill should take place when the ejector blades reach the 12:00 position. Follow these steps exactly in order

That on/off arm...you should be able to move it and it will likely make a small click when the switch goes on or off. That arm controls the ice making. There is also a float, is it working freely? It has a switch too. Ultimately, the water is controlled by a solenoid valve. It may be defective. Many of these units are removable to test the switches with a multimeter. Turn off the water and remove to test. Some parts are available...some parts are by the unit only.

SOURCE: Kenmore Coldspot w/Ice Maker Not Making Ice

hi LOP7,
In most cases you can easily solve this problem.
step one would be to make sure your freezer is getting cold enough. If you have icecream in your freezer is it frozen solid or is it soft. Most icemakers cycle around 0 degrees and if your freezer is not getting to 0 then it will not cycle and it will not make ice.
Step two would be to make sure you icemake is cycling. To do this simply lift the little shut off arm on your icemaker and wait about an hour then go back to the icemaker and drop the arm down. The icemaker should start going through a cycle. You should notice the arm slowly begin to raise and the ice dispencer fingers will begin to turn. Then you will hear it call for water. You may hear a humm.
If the freezer is cold enough and the icemaker is cycling that only leaves the inlet valve. replace the valve and enjoy the ice.
If the freezer is cold enought and the icemaker does not cycle, then you have a bad icemaker. Simply replace the icemaker and viola.
Third if the freezer is not cold enought 0 defrees. Then you may have a defrost problem. In this case post more info and I will be happy to help. Good luck mca0824@aol.com

How do I turn off the ice maker

Many refrigerators will have Ice Makers with an on off switch. These are usually found on the machine. The other option is to lift the little metal bar that tells the ice maker that tray is full and it will stop.

Kenmore 56541 side by side icemaker nor making ice The in door water dispencer works Arm on tray is on no water getting to tray

1.Bad water valve located in the back bottom of refrigerator.
2. Frozen fill tube going into back of ice maker. (common problem)
3. Ice maker not cycling. Pour water into ice maker cavity until near filled.
Wait a few hours and see if it dumps.
4.In rare cases, the switch in the ice maker body fails. Ice maker will cycle but not tell water valve to refill.

ICE MAKING NOT WORKING ON MY KENMORE SIDE BY SIDE

Hello Heavensentme..
Since you pointed out that you don't have a restriction that limits water flow to your fridge.. then you may have a bad inlet valve that allows that same water to refill the ice tray or.. the switch that senses the ice bin is full is stopping ice from being produced.. The motor that rotates the ice tray may also be defective.. .. If possible,, can you empty your freezer compartment and let it thaw out and then try a fresh start so that you know you don't have any ice build up that is stopping the ice tray motor from rotating or the inlet for water isn't frozen? Otherwise.. they aren't that complicated but you kinda have to know what to look for and what to not touch in order to repair them.. Not sure this helped or not but hope so,,,
Regards
Rick

Water doesnt stop after ice tray is filled

there is a micro switch in the ice maker motor module that shuts power off to the ice-maker water valve when the ice maker is full but i rarely see them go bad this is the easy way to deal with it pull the unit out unplug both the valves and turn the water on a sec if its running in the ice maker with the valves are unplugged then replace the valves if its not replace the ice-maker motor module

Ice Maker No Longer Works - Water Works fine

Not sure if this will work for you - I had a similar problem with a Kenmore fridge. I removed the ice tray and found a piece of ice stuck where the ice is made and dropped into the tray. Once I clear this obstruction, the ice maker worked again. Also, check for the mechanism that indicates that the ice tray is full. This may be jammed or malfunctionin.
