Turn camera on, turn upper dial to setup, have the display on, use the up/down arrows on the back of the camera to click to RESET ALL, use the side arrow to to click to the reset box, either NO or RESET.

Why is my nikon 8800 stuck at 1/3000 and the display/view finder display a stretched image in pinks, blues and brilliant white?

Could be a result of any of the accidents they warn you about in the manual. Heat, cold, direct sunlight, dropping, water or magnetic feild. does it take a picture?

Reset factory settings

You only can do little when you want to "reset" some settings. Like restoring default settings (page 58 of the manual) You can put back the shooting menu (Page 152 of the manual) and reset custom settings (Page 157 of the manual) If something went wrong while updating the firmware, you should try to contact the service centre closest to you.

Nikon coolpix p90 how to reset to factory settings

It doesn't reset everything, but there is a "Reset All" command in the Setup menu. Press the MENU button, then the wrench and then "Reset All."
This reset leaves the date/time, white balance, language, and video mode alone.

When I shot each photo, the "system error 2" appears and I have to turn off the camara,

System Error 2 on Nikon Coolpix 8800 is usually after blow, even the small one, when you or somebody kick the camera and yes, FULL RESET on Set Up mode is just one solution. It's camera's error not the card.

From Nikon website:

Having a "System Error" message display on the camera's LCD display generally indicates a problem where the camera will need to come to Nikon for repair. A System Error is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. Before sending the camera in, check these:
  1. Use the memory card that originally came with the camera (or a Nikon approved card) [/*]
  2. Remove and replace the battery [/*]
If the error is still displayed, contact Nikon's Service Department (below). If the above tips do not help the camera must be sent to Nikon Service, there are no user serviceable parts on Nikon Coolpix cameras.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will do everything we can to repair your Nikon camera as quickly as possible.

Good luck.

I have a nikon coolpix 8800. i have a 6gb card installed. I have the latest firmware. I recently took over 1000 pictures on a trip without downloading any of the photos. Once the picture count got over...

Try this...go into the menu and try to find an entry for "reset" to get back to factory default settings. Then, assuming you've safely downloaded any pics from the card, insert it into the camera, go into the menu and find "format"....follow the on-screen instructions to erase and optimize the card. Let me know how this works for you.

Yes you can. Go to the menu and choose tools on the left side(the wrench) in this list you'll see "Reset All" and this will set you back to your factory defaults. Thanks, Dana

Cool pix 8800 system error 2

Rotate the control dial on the top of the camera to the SET UP position. Cycle through the menu options down to where you see "reset camera" This may work only for a while, do it again, and again, when it "locks up".
Re-format the memory card, on your computer if you can.
Turn off the VR, try using it then.
Remove, replace the battery.
Many people have had this problem, most have had to send it back to Nikon. The above option have helped a few, but no guarantees.
Good luck with the 8800
