Question about Dell UltraSharp 1704FPT 17" Flat Panel LCD Monitor

LOads generic driver

I have a Dell Dimension 8400 with a 1704FPTt monitor. A year ago I lost my hard drive (? don't know why) but was able to load the Dell video driver onto the replacement drive, and everything worked well, but then, last April, my second drive failed (?????) and now I cannot even TRY to load the video driver. When I go to the Display properties/Settings/Advanced/Monitor/ the Monitor Properties is grayed out so there's no way I know of to load the Dell driver.

My monitor "snaps" when I scroll up and down, and I cannot use my favorite "Rotate" function.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately the driver for my monitor, which I did get from Dell, didn't recognize the card I have, which also came from Dell. It didn't load. I don't know why . . . I tried several others from Dell, too, as well as from Drivers.com, etc. It wasn't until I went to the MS site that I successfully got a driver loaded that works . . . and showed me that I didn't have to replace my video card after all. That was a relief.

Even so, my monitor still blanks out (goes black, after about 20 minutes, but if I give it a sharp rap with my fingers, turn it off, and then turn it back on, it'll sometimes run for hours ! MOST of the time. Strange behavior.

    Thanks anyway.

Its not the monitor that needs the driver, its the video installed on your computer, can you tell me the video card installed? you might need to use the resouce cd that came along with your computer and then look under video driver and the one that has a check mark is the one thats for your computer, but if you have an add in card, you should get a separate cd for it and thats the one that you can use. the video options is grayed out because the video driver wasnt installed properly. if you already know whats the video card on your computer, you can install the driver from here. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_8400
under video there are 12 options, just look for the name of your video card and install it. thaT SHOULD WORK ALREADY.

All of the software drivers for your machine can be found by using Dell's support page.

Here's a direct link.

A lot of experts here will just give you a direct link to the file you're looking for. Although this is great for an end user since all you've got to do is click the link, it's not going to help you long term.

What I purpose is you learn how to find software drivers yourself.

This will decrease the need to relay on others for help and will ultimately make your experience with computers much more pleasurable.

If you're still having trouble just reply to this thread and I will respond immediately.

Also please don't forget to rate my solution FixYa, it helps me, help you.

Thanks!

You need a new driver for the monitor. Are you now using a new Operating System? Perhaps Windows 7? Go to the http://dell.com websit and look up your monitor under downloads and drivers. Fidn the compatible driver for your operating system and download it.

I have an older Dell Dimension 2400 series. I have tried running the monitor with it. I will get it up and running only after numerous restarts. Most of the time when I start up my system the monitor...

If it's an older 2400 series and you suspect it doesn't have a good signal going to it, I would try the monitor on a different tower to see if it's the monitor. If it isn't, I would recommend that you try to disable and change the VGA card in the Dell, if possible to a known good VGA card.

Also, try wiggling the connections at the monitor and graphics card, if this applies.

Or else, it might be a lost cause for that tower.

Good luck on getting the Princeton monitor working with your Dell Dimension 2400 series.

Flatron LCD Montor to a Dell Dimension XPS T500

> out of date?

Are you sure that it is "out of DATE" ???

Reconnect your old monitor.
Set the screen-resolution to 800-by-600 at 60 Hertz.
Shutdown.
Connect the new monitor.
Reboot.
The new monitor will be detected, and will run at 800 by 600 at 60 Hertz.
Change the screen-resolution to some higher value that both the new monitor, and your older video-card, will allow.

Hi, my name is sean. I have a DELL SE178WFP hooked up though a dokcing station to my dell lap top. I lost the settings so the screen has poor resolution. I want the monitor to be the primary. What settings...

Sean-

The display settings are not controlled by the Docking Station in any way.

The Video Driver loaded must be correct and functional.

Try reinstalling the Video Monitor, if this fails, you may need to go into Safe Mode upon boot up (F8) afetr BIOS screen.

Here is the correct driver page.

http://support.euro.dell.com/support/topics/topic.aspx/emea/shared/support/root/monitor_download?c=uk&l=en&s=gen

You may need to search for the Dell Video driver for your machine.
