Question about Dell UltraSharp 1704FPT 17" Flat Panel LCD Monitor
I have a Dell Dimension 8400 with a 1704FPTt monitor. A year ago I lost my hard drive (? don't know why) but was able to load the Dell video driver onto the replacement drive, and everything worked well, but then, last April, my second drive failed (?????) and now I cannot even TRY to load the video driver. When I go to the Display properties/Settings/Advanced/Monitor/ the Monitor Properties is grayed out so there's no way I know of to load the Dell driver.
My monitor "snaps" when I scroll up and down, and I cannot use my favorite "Rotate" function.
You can download display drivers from the support website use the link enter the system service tag select the operati9ng system and download the latest video drivers .

Its not the monitor that needs the driver, its the video installed on your computer, can you tell me the video card installed? you might need to use the resouce cd that came along with your computer and then look under video driver and the one that has a check mark is the one thats for your computer, but if you have an add in card, you should get a separate cd for it and thats the one that you can use. the video options is grayed out because the video driver wasnt installed properly. if you already know whats the video card on your computer, you can install the driver from here. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_8400
under video there are 12 options, just look for the name of your video card and install it. thaT SHOULD WORK ALREADY.

A lot of experts here will just give you a direct link to the file you're looking for. Although this is great for an end user since all you've got to do is click the link, it's not going to help you long term.
What I purpose is you learn how to find software drivers yourself.
This will decrease the need to relay on others for help and will ultimately make your experience with computers much more pleasurable.
