Older kitchenaid stand mixer has only one speed - fast

The last time I used the mixer, it suddenly has only one speed (fast), regardless of the switch position. Sounds fine, works fine, just no control. Is it something that I can fix myself? Are parts for older models hard to find? Is it worth it?

The mixer must be taken apart and the control fixed, the job must be done by somebody with experience in using solderer and working on appliances.

HI,

The cost of repair for this will be equal to a new one.So buying a new mixer will be the best bet.

I''ll let you know if there are any parts available for this model.

Replace the phase board, that's the small pcb under the back cover with 6 wires coming out of it.

Kitchenaid artisan mixer

The most likely answer is that you need a new speed control switch and there is a possibility that you may need a new worm gear. Can you give a more detailed explanation? What happened last time you used the machine?, what was happening when the problem occurred? What caused you to open the back cover? what else did you inspect or take apart or open up? Please send more info.

KitchenAid mixer speed surges high and low uncontrolably

You can get the high speed back if you want to play with those three screws. there is a timing scheme for your mixer and it is set and adjusted by manipulating those 3 screws. The bottom center screw is for speeds 6 8 and 10. The best choice is to replace this switch, about $10 bucks on ebay.

I have a Hobart KitchenAid Mixer Model K45SS and it runs fast on low (Surges speeds up and down)what is causing this problem

Hello Mayfix,

The problem with your mixer is the speed control switch, this switch is located at the back of the unit. It is usually black and has all of the wires coming into it, the Item # 1394070 and cost $27.95 it can be located at RepairClinic.com he is a link
http://www.repairclinic.com/Kitchenaid-Switch-Parts?z=100&gclid=CKSD5NriuKcCFUVqKgodIE2b_g

You will have to adjust after you install you will adjust the two screws at the top of the switch while the machine is running inorder to make sure that you are getting all the speeds. Be careful as there is a possibility of electrical shock if you touch the wronge thing.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Leaks oir or grease at shaft where beater attaches

eaking of oil in a stand mixer is not necessarily indicative of a large problem.

Kitchenaid stand mixers are overpacked with oil to last the lifetime of the motor. If the motor sits idle for some time (is not used), the oil may begin to drip from the gears and settle. Oil leakage may primarily be seen from around the beater shaft or planetary action.

A stand mixer can lose up to a 1/4 cup of oil before it needs to be serviced.

It is recommended to run the mixer on speed 10 for 2 minutes in order to redistribute oil back into the motor. In order to prevent future occurences, this is recommended to be done every 3 weeks if mixer is not being used.

If you still feel as though the mixer is in need of service, you may locate Kitchenaid certified repair centers through the following link: http://caservice.kitchenaid.com/

Speed switch gone beserk

ANSWER

I have a K5-A, bought it for my S.O., she makes Krispy Cream doughnuts with it. The speed controller on a K5 has "originally" 2 return springs. They rust / break fall out the lower vents in the white cup that covers the rear of the machine. You can remove the cap with the removal of the lone screw at the top rear of the machine. Just gently work off the cap after the screw is removed. MAKE SURE THE MACHINE IS UNPLUGGED FIRST!!! There is a funny metal flange thing that is mounted with two screws at the top on springs. This is esentialy the speed controle. It is actuated by a rod conected to the outside switch that runs up the bottom of the motor drive. You'll note the simple but effective off / on switch there. When the springs rot the funny flange thing does not return to its flat resting position and we have no low speeds. The springs attatch to the holes on eather side of the flange and stretch down to a post type mount below the speed mechanism. If you use a good light you can see and mount any small spring to these mounting points and the switch returns to rest and you have all speeds, a single light spring will work.................There, You, Go..........Reassemble.

My Kitchenaid K5SS 300 watt standing mixer launches into the highest speed regardless of the speed selection. It functions with a sliding knob and I can barely ease it from off to stir and it goes from no...

I had a similar problem where the mixer would also go to fast speed right away. On the back at the top was a screw that was loose. After tightening this screw I had 4 speeds but no stir speed. I unscrewed that screw and a bolt fell out. This bolt went to threads on the inside of the area covered by that back plate. I put that bolt back on and tightened it and the corresponding one on the other side and wala the mixer works perfectly at all speeds. Hope it helps. Make sure mixer is unplugged before attempting anything like this (wires are exposed when the back plate is removed - some kind of flexible circuit board).
