Question about Panasonic NN-T990SA Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Paint has chipped off bottom of MW

I own a Emerson MWG9111SL Microwave. I've had it 6 mo. The paint has come off under the turntable and now it is rusting. I cannot keep moisture down in the oven. It is always damp. It doesn't have to be used much to get that way. Could the browning element be part of the problem.

I'm afraid that it is not safe anymore. I have a Panasonic that is chipping and rusting. It is about 8 years old. Should I replace it or try the paint? Is chipping and rusting common in microwaves? If so, why?

Thanks for the answer so quickly. It really helps understanding the causes. Although my microwave has plenty of free space it wasn't always the case. Good information. Thank you again.

Moisture accumulation can sometimes be caused if the cooling fan is not running properly or if the vents in the back are blocked or there is not enough free space around the sides and back of the microwave.

One thing that helps is to keep the door open a few minutes after using it and to wipe down the inside after use.

If the cavity metal of the oven is chipped or charred, it will have to be sanded smooth and clean and dried thoroughly.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.

HI,
If you are able to spent money for a new Microwave then go for a new one.
If you are interested to repair and reuse the existing Microwave then keep on thing in mind, if you paint it then also it will not lasts for a long time as the metal underneath is rusted.

The bottom of my microwave (under the wheels of the turntable) is starting to chip. can i repair this myself with high heat appliance enamel paint?

Probably, as long as it's not rusted all the way through.

You need to sand it to bare metal, then it will take paint.

I'd leave the door open and let it dry overnight.

Paint inside microwave oven bottom is peeling

The oven cavity will probably start to rust where the paint is gone. If you're up to it, sand it and paint it with a color that matches the interior color. Other then colors, there is nothing special about paint inside a microwave.

Chipping/peeling rusting paint in interior under carousel

Hi,

Scratches and bare spots are fairly common, but should be addressed as soon as they arise so the corrosion will not spread and arcing does not occur.

Unplug the power cord and remove the turntable and the support that is under the turntable. Clean the surface of the support wheels or any other part that rubs on the oven cavity.

Take some mild sanding cloth or scotchbright and clean the bare and rusted areas in the microwave. Use appliance touch up paint to re-coat the surface. You can find the touch up at most anywhere that sells appliances, it comes in a plastic bottle similar in appearance to fingernail polish, yes it does have a brush inside.

Let it dry per the instructions on the bottle or 24 hours if not specified.

On the bottom of my microwave, the coating started "chipping" off and now there is a fairly large area that appears to be rusting and makes where the turntable wheels rest look really dirty. Is there...

This is often caused by spills and condensation.

The metal will have to be sanded smooth and clean.

You can use a wire brush and naval jelly to get rid of the rust.

If any rust remains, you can use Rust Reformer paint to stop the rust process, then sand it smooth when it's dry.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart or Lowe's.

Surely you should have a 12 month warranty with it, take it back to the shop and tell them it's going rusty, and that it's not fit for purpose. Read your consumer right's which are usually available on the internet, then quote it to them if they argue about it. They should either repair or replace the machine.
