Can I do a factory restore on my laptop without the CD?

Hi annick_s,

You can do a factory restore without using your CD as long as you haven't deleted the Recovery partition. Follow the steps below to do a factory restore;

1) Turn on the computer.
2) When the initial blue HP screen appears, press the F10> key repeatedly until a recovery menu appears.
3) When the Recovery screen appears, click Next, and then click Yes to perform a normal, non-destructive recovery. To perform a destructive recovery, click Advanced, and then click Yes.

CAUTION: A destructive recovery will format the hard drive. This will delete all the information on the hard drive and reinstall Windows XP and the original software that came with the computer.

4) After the System Recovery is complete, the computer restarts and continues into Windows setup. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup.

If this information was helpful, please rate it.

Thank you for using fixya,

Where can I get an installation disk for a toshiba satellite A210?

it depends on what operation system you want to put on it ...I guess you wanted to refer to an recovery disk ..but this can be ordered only on the manufacturer to be perfect ...but the way to do it is to install the operation system ..and get the drivers on a download ..
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=1871687&rpn=PSAFGU&modelFilter=A210-ST1616&selCategory=3&selFamily=1073768663
this is the support site from toshiba ..and here you will find all drivers for about all operation system supported on the machine
if you do not have an installation cd (boot-able ) I am also link-ing a download torrent for an xp ...that is quite clean and it's still my first choice on the OS today ...
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5388204/Windows_Xp_Genuine
this is the torrent ...download it with a torrent client ..like U torrent or bit torrent ...after that burn it on a cd using nero ...beware that it is a image file and it is burning automatically ..just install nero if you do not have it ..and double click the file ..for burning ...on a CD-R
this is the cd kay you will need..:

My gateway laptop 4540gz cant find opp system

Operating system is the main program of the computer. It can b easily detected by your computer in boot up. So if the computer doesn't detect it, this are the steps you can try :

  1. First try to run system restore if you have one.
  2. If you don't have system restore disk, or back up disk, you can remove your hardisk from your laptop and try to connect it to other computer as an external hard drive. in that, you can copy important files and back up it in other computer if it is not also deleted.
  3. Then if you have back up your file or not, you must format your hard disk. return your hard disk to your laptop and format it.
If you don't know how to format just ask again here.

Reboot back to factory settings

Hi there
You can only perform a restore if the PC came with a recovery partition or recovery CD's.
Recovering the system without using Windows
  1. Disconnect all peripherals and internal non preinstalled devices from the PC, except the monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
  2. Turn on the computer.
  3. When the initial blue HP screen appears, press the F10 key repeatedly until a recovery menu appears. The progress indicator that first appears does not indicate that a recovery is taking place. The progress indicator represents the time before the recovery process is started.
  4. When the Recovery screen appears, click Next, and then click Yes to perform a normal, non-destructive recovery.
  5. To perform a destructive recovery, click Advanced, and then click Yes.
  6. After the System Recovery is complete, and the computer starts successfully, update the computer software

Post back if this does NOT work

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

HP Pavillion Programs freezing

Suggest restoring the system to factory settings. You will lose all of your data so back it up first.

Restore is either on disks or on recovery partition of hard drive. If you have recovery disks put first one in and reboot computer.

When the computer starts you should see an option to hit F10 for System Restore/Recovery. Hit F10, click advanced settings and choose Destructive Restore. Follow the prompts.

Will need to reload all programs after restore is done that did not come with computer such as Office.

Hope this helps.
Thanks!
