HOw do i reset my computer to where its practiclly new?

Restoring an HP computer to factory settings requires that you do a system recovery.
There are two types of recovery for HP computers: destructive and non-destructive.

Destructive recovery will reformat your hard drive, destroying all data and reinstalling the operating system and additional software according to the factory configuration.

Non-destructive, or "system," recovery will repair your Windows installation, replacing any damaged or missing system files and restoring the registry to the factory setting.

Non-destructive recovery is the best option if you are unable to back up your user data before running system recovery.Restoring with CDs

Back up all crucial user files if you are able to do so.
If your computer will not burn CDs, use flash drives of 4GB or higher to store your data.

Alternatively, you can use your network to transfer files.
You can then back up your data to CDs at your leisure.

Detach peripheral devices such as removable media drives, USB drives and your printer before recovering.

Also remove any additional hard drives by disconnecting the cable from the back of the computer.
Leave your monitor, mouse and keyboard attached to the computer.

Shut down your computer.
Place the first recovery CD in the CD drive.

If your recovery files are written on a partition, you may be able to select system recovery from the splash screen and your computer starts.
Select the recovery option you would like to use.
To perform a destructive recovery, click the "Advanced" menu option.

Select "Destructive Recovery" and click "Next."
To perform a non-destructive, or system, recovery, click "Next" from the opening screen.
Watch the computer while it is recovering to the factory settings.
Watch for any errors, as the computer will wait indefinitely for a response from you, slowing down recovery time.

Also, you may need to insert additional recovery CDs as the recovery program requests them. Restoring With Recovery Manager

Click the Windows "Start" menu, type "Recovery" in the Search field and press "Enter."
Click "Advanced Options," choose "System Recovery" and select "Next."
If you are prompted to use Microsoft's recovery program, select "No."
Choose the option to back up your files, if you haven't done it already.
Once that is complete, choose "Next" to begin reformatting the drive and returning the system to factory settings. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and/How-do-I-RESTORE-my-system-to-the-original-factory-settings/td-p/50113

How do i return my acer aspire 5630 to factory settings

Method of Restoring yourPC to factory reset: Try tapping the F10 key every couple of seconds during a boot. Most OEMmachines have a recovery partition on the hard drive. Don't worry about the partition, it's probably hidden and it doesn't concernyou. In that partition there is an image of your system that was made justbefore it left the factory. Just follow the directions to recovery your system and you should be fine. You 'might' have an option to do a 'non-destructive' or a 'destructive'recovery. If you choose the 'non-destructive' it will 'try' to repair yoursystem and save all your files. If you choose the 'destructive', it willrestore your system to the way it came from the factory. I suggest trying the 'non-destructive' first. You can always try the'destructive' if it doesn't work.

How do I reformat a compaq armada e500 lap top

Use the Restoration Disk.

Perform a Repair if you are going to keep existing personal information.
(i.e., Documents you have created or downloaded, Photos, Music, and programs you have downloaded, or installed)

Repair is a Non-Destructive Installation.

Perform a Full Installation if you do not plan on keeping personal information.
Full Installation is a Destructive Installation.

If you do not have the Restoration Disk for your Compaq Armada E500, you can obtain it from HP Support. (HP owns Compaq)

In the USA the Restoration Disk is free.
The shipping and handling is not.

$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.
Call 1-800-474-6836
(24hrs a day, 7 days a week)

For all other countries please click on this link,

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/hp-information/summary/ww-support.html

If you format the harddrive the wrong way, you will wipe off the Windows operating system.
You'll have a blank harddrive.

Can I do a factory restore on my laptop without the CD?

Hi annick_s,

You can do a factory restore without using your CD as long as you haven't deleted the Recovery partition. Follow the steps below to do a factory restore;

1) Turn on the computer.
2) When the initial blue HP screen appears, press the F10> key repeatedly until a recovery menu appears.
3) When the Recovery screen appears, click Next, and then click Yes to perform a normal, non-destructive recovery. To perform a destructive recovery, click Advanced, and then click Yes.

CAUTION: A destructive recovery will format the hard drive. This will delete all the information on the hard drive and reinstall Windows XP and the original software that came with the computer.

4) After the System Recovery is complete, the computer restarts and continues into Windows setup. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup.

If this information was helpful, please rate it.

Thank you for using fixya,

I have a Compaq Presario SR1610NX Desktop PC and I am having problems restoring it back to original factory settings. Can I please get some help on how to get it back to factory settings.

Back to factory settings requires the Restoration Disk. (CD disk)

Turn the computer on, install the Restoration Disk in your optical drive, (Either one), and wait for the disk to boot up.

Once you come to the question of, "What do you wish to do; Non-Destructive Restoration, or Destructive Restoration, choose Destructive Restoration.

(Non-Destructive Restoration is Repair.
Destructive Restoration is a Full Installation )

After you click on your choice follow the instructions.
Takes an average of 35 to 45 minutes.

Don't have the Restoration Disk?
You can obtain it from HP Support. (HP bought out Compaq)
The disk/s are free. The shipping and handling is not.

$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.

In the USA the phone number to call them is toll free.
(Big deal if you have unlimited service, or a cell phone, huh?
I just included this info anyway)

1-800-474-6836
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
(I called this number to verify it's a working number, and the procedure is still the same, about 2 months ago. It's a working number. No charges are involved)

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/contact/phone_assist.html

For HP Support phone numbers not in the USA,

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/wwcontact_us.html

You will need your Serial Number, (S/N), to give to the nice representative on the phone.
This is either on the back of your computer tower, or up on the side of the tower.
It's in the white Service Tag.

If you have questions please post in a Comment.
Would appreciate hearing how this came out.

My gateway laptop 4540gz cant find opp system

Operating system is the main program of the computer. It can b easily detected by your computer in boot up. So if the computer doesn't detect it, this are the steps you can try :

  1. First try to run system restore if you have one.
  2. If you don't have system restore disk, or back up disk, you can remove your hardisk from your laptop and try to connect it to other computer as an external hard drive. in that, you can copy important files and back up it in other computer if it is not also deleted.
  3. Then if you have back up your file or not, you must format your hard disk. return your hard disk to your laptop and format it.
If you don't know how to format just ask again here.

Reboot back to factory settings

Hi there
You can only perform a restore if the PC came with a recovery partition or recovery CD's.
Recovering the system without using Windows
  1. Disconnect all peripherals and internal non preinstalled devices from the PC, except the monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
  2. Turn on the computer.
  3. When the initial blue HP screen appears, press the F10 key repeatedly until a recovery menu appears. The progress indicator that first appears does not indicate that a recovery is taking place. The progress indicator represents the time before the recovery process is started.
  4. When the Recovery screen appears, click Next, and then click Yes to perform a normal, non-destructive recovery.
  5. To perform a destructive recovery, click Advanced, and then click Yes.
  6. After the System Recovery is complete, and the computer starts successfully, update the computer software

Post back if this does NOT work

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

If recovery is not possible by using recovery cd; you have to depend on a full version XP cd -- either for repair or new installation.
