HP-iPaq 2215 battery replacement

I purchased a spare battery for our iPaq 2215. When I insert a charged battery, the screen defaults back to "out of the box" screen displays. I have to reload "everything." Any ideas? I thank you in advance for your reply.

Hi, Jim--
When you take the battery out of an IPAQ you're performing a hard reset. I've got 4 different IPAQs and it does the same thing on all of them.
My solution was to back the IPAQ up using the internal backup program (back up to IPAQ storage) and then replace the battery, then restore the last backup.
Saved me a heck of a lot of time. It's been hard to remember to back up everytime I add a program or change data majorly, but it's probably the best thing to do.

HARD RESET HP iPAQ h2000 Series (2210 / 2215

While holding down on the far left (calendar) and far right (iTask), press in on the reset button on the back of the unit for about 5 seconds. After you see the screen fade, release all buttons. You can verify the hard reset by pressing the power button. If the device does not power on, then you have successfully reset you unit. To reactivate the battery you must either connect the iPAQ back to AC power or press the reset button again with your stylus

a relic of year 2004, now 14 years old, most are in the trash now.!
i presume you ask here is because HP wont answer on this relic device? (happens) or no shop shop in town will touch it? (sure)
or the labor to fix it is 10x value (it is!) or more !
it needs repair, so....
you have no spare parts
HP has no spare parts
only on EBAY can you find used parts.
why not just guess. like this. (I'd not but....)

1: new battery main (then charge it) fully! per manual. .
2: NEW hidden battery inside.
3: new screen (or used) on fleabay

Try taking out battery and plug in power. If it works, battery is faulty. If not,
Try taking out your hard disk plug in power, if it works, hard disk is faulty. If not,
Try taking out memory card, if there's a sound, memory card faulty. If no sound, it's your motherboard that is causing the error.

Note: If machine is under warranty no need to pay for the repairs.

Doesn't start up

Hi, Based on your post/description, your iPaq 2210 will not power on. It is possible that your battery is deactivated. To reactivate, plug it to the AC power supply/adaptor, press reset at the back of the unit. Assuming no other problem, the unit will initialize back to default factory settings. It's very likely that all your previous/personal settings, files and applications will be also gone. Good luck and pls post back how things turn up. Kind regards.
