Question about Whirlpool Dryers

1 Answer

Dryer does not heat--timer dial does not work either.

The dryer will run for hours and the dial does not move, yet theclothes do not dry at all. The heating in the dryer stoppedsuddenly, without damage to the unit or overloading.

Hello Agnew77,
Chances are you have a bad or defective motor that rotates the dial and sequences the dry process..
Unless you are technical and able to troubleshoot this type of problem safely, you may want to remove and replace that motor assembly with another or have it serviced by an applince tech. Please advise if you want to attempt to troubleshoot this problem or order replacement parts online and I may be able to provide some assistance...
Regards,
Rick

On my kenmore dryer 970-c82062-00 I can get all 3 timers to start but the heated automatic dry portion does not time out.

that model number doesn't come up,you sure that isn't the serial number?also does the dryer have heat, when you run it on time dry the timer just counts down like a clock, when on auto or more or less the heat comes on until the dryer heats to temp. the heat shuts off and the timer will advance, when the heat comes back on the timer stops moving,it will do this until the clothes are dry,if you do have heat you could have a bad sensor or a bad cycling thermostat but you'll have to check it with a meter.send the model number and i can help you better.

Estate TGDS680EQ3 gas dryer blows cold

The timer is stripped inside and needs to be replaced. The cogged teeth are made of plastic and a tooth or two has broken off keeping the timer from moving while running

Amana Gas CLothes Dryer Mod#NDG7800AWW dryer will heat and does dry some but when it moves to the less dry the dial does not move and the dryer does not heat

if your clothes are damp because you say it does dry some what then it sounds like it could be the gas coils, the coils will work for awhile but then they fail and the timer will not move if there is no heat on the more or less

Check the connections to the timer dial. If all connected, replace the timer. Should solve the issue

Dryer Timer dial will not move but dryer works

Will the dryer move forward in timed dry? if it does not then you need a new timer. If if will advance in timed dry but does not advance in auto mode then the high limit needs to be replaced on the heater.

Hi Joy Ann,

The automatic cycle of your dryer depends on air circulating in, through and out of your dryer efficiently. If air isn't circulating properly, your timer will stall and run forever.

Timed Dry, on the other hand is independent. The timer only does what it's told to do... count down time.

So, yes. You do have a blockage in the vent to outside. When you said the "Vents are clean", I presume you mean the lint filter. That's good. It's always good to keep that clear. What I'm talking about is the four inch vent tube from the dryer to the wall. How close is the back of the dryer to the wall? If it's less than 4", the vent is crushed. Take a flashlight and look behind the dryer without moving it. See that flex hose back there connecting the dryer to the wall? If it is pinched, so is your air flow. Either pull the dryer out about 8" from the wall, or shorten the hose.

If all of that checks out OK, though.. (your flex line to the wall isn't pinched) that means that the vent in the wall is blocked somewhere. Trust me... I've seen all kinds of things block vents to the outside. Bird nests mainly, squirrel's, reptiles, rodents... they all love to build nests in the warm place <--that would be your dryer exhaust.

Recommendation: pull the dryer out at LEAST 8" from the wall and see if that helps. If not, your Home's internal dryer vent should be professionally cleaned (should be done once a year for 2 story Homes).

Bottom line is this... if your dryer is heating, it's trying to do its' job. The only reason it can't is because air isn't circulating properly.

Look into it, Joy Ann... Dryer fires are serious and they are caused by blocked ventilation.

Hope this helps,
SG
