This is an internal failure , the audio amp has stopped working or worse the volume IC chip has failed
it will need testing to determine the cause

Connect the dvd player to your tv set and then insert cd in that plyer and check out do you get proper sound then it shows that the tv is proper and only the volume settings needs to be made proper. but if the dvd player connected does not give proper sound then it the problem in the device sound controller which needs reparing internally. and now why the sound controller gone faulty ,because when you last watched the tv it was proper u just made the tv off and the next day it stopped giving u the sound. for this  actually the sound controller  component on the circuit board of your tv was at its last stage of becoming faulty.but was working fine till the day u watched the tv, but the next day when u made the tv ON the power /currecnt passed through the tv and the sound controller component was not able to handle that immense current which tv receives whenever you ON the tv.and that component became short and so no sound from the tv. just get ity repaired. the cost will be negligble.

Hi,

A couple of ideas (process of elimination) that could be explored/checked:

  • if the screen shows the volume level is going up/down while pressing corresponding buttons on remote, then controller is operational;
  • if you can try using the TV unit with another source such as a DVD and problem persists, then it is not the TV source;
  • which would leave us only with the built-in amplifier of the Sony TV (most likely);
  • or the speakers (least likely).
All of the above is generic. A more detailed evaluation could be forwarded if you can postback the model number.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

    Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

May I inquire, your post "tv works with the cable box" means there is sound and picture on cable?

On your second "Ask Me".....Offhand I would venture that the built-in audio amplifier is defective.
This is both an easy and quick repair as well as inexpensive. If the
unit is still under warranty (fairly new) discuss your concern
with the someone from the point of purchase for a possibility of
exchange unit. Alternately and if for some reason you are considering
taking care of this on your own, a workaround may be possible if you
could confirm for the presence of the red and white RCA connector at
the rear right side that says "AUDIO OUT". Should this be there, then
you can hook up the Sony to an external amplifier or a Home Theater
system or a receiver and thereafter use that external units amplifier.
Of course, this is assuming that it is the Sony's built-in amp that is
faulty and not its digital sound processing system.

Would appreciate an update for any developments.

    On your third "Ask Me"...

Other than to make use of the L/R (white/red) AUDIO OUT and connect to
another amplifier/speaker, the only recourse is to open the unit which
would void warranty. I am afraid, there is no other option. Sorry.

Just a thought, being 7ft high makes me think that the unit is meant to
be viewed by a number of viewers. If this were so, might not the use of
an external amplifier with attendant external speakers arrange for a
surround system enhance the viewing pleasure?

Another idea to explore is if the cable box has its own L/R (white/red)
AUDIO OUT which you can connect to the external amplifier + speakers.

Let me know do you have any experience of TV repair? because your TV
has hardware problem in sound processing board and it requires to apart
TV and test / check voltage on it.
If voltages are found correct, you may need to replace board.
    I
will provide you more info like what voltage on what board will be
tested / checked upon your reply of TV repair experience question.
You may require service manual to diagnose problem in TV.

After switching off and on last night the volume and mute on stopped responding on Humax remote. IT is PVR9150T and remote RT531B. TV Remote works fine with volume. Humax remote works fine on all exce

Note that this type of device is designed to be left on at all times, so should not be switched off each night. I suspect that it has some slight corruption in the user-settings, so a factory reset may be required.

Sony kp 51hw40 rear projector turn off problem .

T8005 etc is NOT the issue.

This set was prone to bad picture tubes (has 3) and can flash bright blue (most common) and set when this happens detects too much current being drawn and shuts down.

There is a fairly easy way to try to deal with this and return set operation to fairly normal.

Not technical and no parts are needed.

Let me know if you want to know with a comment here and I will explain.

Are you trying to kill it? A device has only so many emergency shut-offs it can withstand.

How are the spaces around the top, underside and back for ventilation?

0 dB isn't normally 'normal' volume.

I wonder if the fan is a self-defeating work-around because the noise might make you want to crank it up so higher so you can hear it.

Apple TV? Is it a dynamically-compressed audio signal? That would raise the average volume.

Probably not, the PCBoard is possibly damaged are the carbonated buttons.
A replacement remote is fairly cheap as is a one for all with the required functions.
Such a waste I do agree.

Check and see if you have the sound settings to Stereo, and Audio to Main, not SAP.
Try the TV with a DVD player, does that work?
Are you using a cable TV box? Try the TV connected directly to cablevision. If that works, get a new cable box.

The TV may need a repair technician if the above tests don't work. Audio is generally not user serviceable without a lot of electronics skill, due to parts size and circuit complexity.

LG 42LC7D TV does not want to chg channels after 5 min of use

There are some inductors that are out of spec. LG's original SB said to replace some of these with a jumper, but it only lasted a couple months.

You need to have the Total Main Assy replaced.
