Question about Weber Baby Q Grill

1 Answer

Hard to iqnite Baby Q grill

I always attempt to light the grill setting the dial in the correct place. It never lights on the first attempt as it used to. Sometimes after 8-10 attempts I give up and use the George Foreman grill in the kitchen or the stove's broiler. Other times after 3 or 4 attempts the grill ignites but with a huge flare up that nearly tinges my eyebrows and/or clothing. Not good.

What's the problem and how do I fix it?

I tried smitty881's suggestion and it worked on the first attempt to ignite my grill. Problem solved. I had always had the lid open when igniting and sometimes it would ignite and sometimes it took many attempts or I'd just give up. Thanks. Ron

Do you leave the lid down when you ignite the unit? I had this problem with another brand of grill but when I leave the lid down and ignite the grill, it works perfectly.

That said, call Weber Customer Service and share the problem with them. I've never found a better customer service department than at Weber.

Side burner lights but not main burner on gas grill

If you smell gas, don't attempt to light the burner. Instead, turn the gas off and inspect the fuel tank, lines and burners once the smell of has has cleared. Always grill where you have adequate ventilation and perform all repairs only after the grill has fully cooled from use.

High is the highest and hottest setting/temperature. Depending on how long you preheat the gill with the lid close, will determine what the maximum temperature will be.If it's not heating well, the burners may need to be removed and cleaned. The link below is for the Baby Q Model. Pay particular attention to the Annual Maintenance Section, as it will show you how to remove the burner(s) and clean them.

I don't seem to be able to get the Brickettes Hot

Whether using a gas canister or a tank, To solve this problem, first be sure you have adequate gas in the tank. If that checks out OK, do the following:

1. Turn the gas tank valve OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank. Or remove the canister from
it's holder.

2. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank. Or reinstall the canister into the holder.

3. Open the tank valve or canister valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow).

4. Once the tank valve is fully open, light the burner and set the burner
control knob on HIGH. Does the flame height look correct for being set on HIGH? If so, light
any remaining burners the same way. Do all the burner flames look correct? If so, you solved
the problem. Remember, to always open the tank valve Very, Very Slowly.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa. Happy Grilling!!

I cannot get a flame going on my grill - it has slowly stopped - I've taken everything out and cleaned to the nth degree - replaced the grill regulator; replaced the gas tank regulator, etc. The dial...

Here's the problem and the solution. The new regulator you just installed, locked up when you turned ON new tank. This oocurs quite frequently with the fairly new OPD equipped grill tanks.

Solution:

1. Turn the gas tank's valve OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank.

2. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank.

3. Open the tank valve VERY, VERY, SLOWLY (slow motion, slow),

4. Once the valve is fully open, light the burner farthest from the tank first and turn it to HIGH.
Did the burner light and does the flame height look correct? If so, light the remaining burners
the same way. Now, do all the flame heights look correct? If so, you solved the problem (with
a little help). Remember to ALWAYS open the tank valve very, very, slowly.

I have a Weber gas grill, and I just replaced the propane tank, yet when I ignite it on the Start/High setting, very little flame is produced. This is the first time in 5 years or so that I've...

Don't worry, you'll be grilling in no time, if you follow these instructions:

1. Turn the gas tank valve OFF.

2. Disconnect the grill's hose from the propane tank and wait 5 minutes.

3. Reconnect the hose to the tank and open the tank's gas valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow Motion, slow).

Once the valve is fully open light one burner and turn it to HIGH. Has the flame height returned to normal? If so, light the remaining burner and turn it to HIGH. Do both flame heights look normal?
If so, you solve the problem! Remember to always turn the tank valve ON Very, Very Slowly.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know and Happy Grilling!!

My7 Baby q doesnt get hot enought to sear steaks

Their are several things that can cause this problem:

1. The burner(s) need to be removed and thoroughly cleaned.
2, Low amount of gas in the tank.
3. The grill's gas regulator is partially seized.

The first two are easy for you to solve, The third one is to if you do the following:

Turn the gas tank valve OFF. If you're using a 20lb LP Gas grill tank, disconnect the hose from the tank and wait 5 minutes, If you're using a small 1 lb cylinder, turn it OFF and remove it from the grill. after 5 minutes, reconnect the hose to the tank or reinsert the small cylinder and turn the tank valve ON VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow). Once the valve is fully open light the burner(s) and turn it to the highest setting. Did the burner light and does the flame height look correct? If so, you solved the problem. Just remember to always turn the tank valve ON very, very slowly.

If the above didn't solve the problem, you will need to replace the grill's hose/regulator assembly (if you're using a 20Lb LP Grill Tank). Which you can find at any home center or hardware store that sells gas grills and accessories. If you're using the smaller insert-able tank, you will need to replace the tank's hookup and regulator mechanism.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Happy Grilling!!

Low temperature Only hitting 300 degrees Has gas It's warm outside as well

Two problems - Two Solutions: Turn the LP tank valve to OFF. Disconnect the grill hose from the tank and do not reinstall for 5 minutes. After the 5 minutes, reconnect the hose to the tank and turn the tak valve ON VERY, VERY SLOWLY (slow motion, slow). When the tank valve is fully open, light the burner farthest from the tank and turn the flame height to HIGH? Does the flame height look correct? If so, light the remaining burners the same way. If all the flame heights appear to be normal for the highest setting, you've solved the problem.

Second problem & solution: The grill thermometer may be incorrect (as they often are). If you don't have one, buy an inexpensive oven thermometer (that normally sits on the oven rack) and place it on the cooking grate of your grill, toward the front of the grill. Once in place, preheat your grill as you normally would with the hood closed and at about the 15 minute mark, compare the temperature on the two thermometers. If they're within a few degrees of each other, your grill thermometer is accurate. If the Oven thermometer reads higher (more than a few degrees), the grill's T-Stat is faulty.

Personally, I always use an oven thermometer on my grill when grilling or baking anything.

Hope this helped to solve your problem. Please let me know and Happy Grilling!

I am scared to death of gas grills -- nearly burned my hair and eyebrows off years ago -- husband always lights it -- he's out of town -- how do I light a Weber gas grill?

Be sure your outdoors in the open. Be sure that the cover is off. Use a large match stick (fire place)or a butane grill lighter to burn the gas. Place the lite match/lighter to the burner head and open the gas bottle. After 6 seconds, If the burner head does not light shut the gas bottle off. Try again till it lights.
