DO NOT ALTER THE WIRING TO THE GAS VALVE!!!! This uses a modulating valve...not simple stuff. If you don't know what you're talking about...don't offer assistance. There are a million threads on here about adding thermostats to these units. A few I have gone into great detail on. Basically every method you can think of is bad for the heater.

If you are just going for heat only just connect the t_stat at these setting red wire R white wire to W green wire to G

Now the heater you can go to the gas valve or if it has a circuit board go to Red to R and white to W Green to G. Green is optional you just need two wires hooked up. You will see on top of the gas valve three connections the ones marked th are the ones you need.

Contact Rinnai, or look at product manual.
Products rated for natural gas do not work with propane.
Propane burns hotter and has more pressure... wrong gas can cause explosion

Problem is with my Rinnai propane gas heater in my LIVING ROOM, not car. Please see previous question. Thanks.

Turn it off. Check connections and hoses with very soapy water for leaks (it will bubble)

If you can't find it... I would either return it if possible... or go take it to a propane professional for testing.

How to change the thermostate on my Rinnia Energysave 556 WT heater

The thermostat on the unit is located in the lower right hand side of the unit behind the trim panel closest to the wall. Look for a yellow wire with a black rubber bulb on the end. It will have a few feet of extra wire tied up in the heater itself and allows you to raise it to get a better more accurate reading. To change it, you have to unplug it from the PC board and plug in the new one. You can not use a conventional thermostat on a Rinnai heater.

I just bought a used Rinnai 1004f propane monitor and it came without the vent to outside. How can I get a vent? (Maybe kit) The wall is 16 inches thick. Jim Marstaller Naples, Maine

is this a vented or non vented unit? have you checked the rinnai distributorship? call Adirondack Hardware in Keeseville NY. They have parts for Toyostove, Monitors and Rinnai heaters. Their staff are very well versed in all kero and propane heaters.

How to wire unit baseboard heater to the power to thermoster

That is a portable unit and should not be hard-wired and controlled by a wall-mounted thermostat. The unit may never cut off that way.

It is considered a "space heater" not an area heater.

Raise the thermistor. It is a black rubber probe located on the back of the heater close to the coldest spot in your home, the floor. Raise it a few inches. To do this you will need to unhook it from its holder and open the front of the heater to unravel the extra length of yellow wire.

Rinnai 1004 - Temp on thermostat reads 10 deg cooler than actual, keeps running

Behind the unit near the floor level, is a yellow wire with a black bulb at the end. This is the actual sensor for returning air. If there is cool air infiltrating the area where it is located, it will keep the unit running until the return air reaches temperature. You could also have a bad sensor but highly unlikely. Make sure there is no air infiltration influencing the sensor. Also, you can unclip the sensor and pull out a few more inches of wire to locate it higher up away from the floor. Tie it up with a wire tie.

Rinnai it testing a remote thermostat but as of yet, there is no plans to offer one.
