After shutting down and restarting the HP Photosmart C6180 AIO it says the printer was improperly shut down and to not just unplug or turn off the printer from a power strip (which I didn't do) and to hit OK. Even upon hitting OK it turns itself back off and on again, the loading bar appears and the error message returns. It seems to be stuck in a loop.

My HP C6180 will not stay on. It starts and almost turns on, but then restarts. I've tried unplugging it for a while, moving it to another location, etc. The loop keeps running.

Hi tommilligan,

unplug the power cord from the printer and press and hold the ON button for 10 secs and try connecting to diffirent wall outlet directly.

Scan light/bar will not move. It seems to be "stuck" It does light up, top feed vibrates but will not feed. Print command from screen works and unit prints

If making a copy on the printer does the same thing, it's a hardware problem in the copier/scanner area. You can try turning off the printer then powering it back on after 30 seconds. Make sure the printer is plugged in straight to the power outlet in the wall, bypass any surge device or power strip. If problem persists, I strongly suggest you contact Lexmark technical support to further investigate the problem.

Printer will not complete boot up

On the control board on the right side there is a 330uf 10v capacitor that needs to be changed. The top was bulged on the one I was working on and when I replaced it it works fine. It had the on/off loop going on.

HP C6180 boot - init loop / power on-off loop

The Formatter board (main logic board) is faulty. You need to take the printer in for repairs to HP, in my experience though it usually works out better to replace the printer.

Check flatcable connection to main circuit board:

Open cover and release the "Z" cover (right side) which hides the flatcable. Simply stick the cable to mainboard.

Making funny clicking noise and hour glass showing that it is processing won't go away

As a follow-on to solution 2 (thanks for the post BTW), I found the problem is indeed the light bar, but rather than breaking into the printer to move and lube the light bar, I found success by simply shaking the printer with the left side down, to move the light bar along it's track to the left. (the shaking motion is sort of like getting ketchup out of a bottle).

This worked better for me than dismantling the printer with a special screw driver and seemingly needing to break the panel to get to the third screw. Hopefully this helps.
