Question about Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router
Sorry if this is a redundant email. The last one I sent had me typing a verification code and I was not sure if the email was posted.
Well I finally have internet access to my laptop computer!!! I can not thank you enough for all your help.
However, now I do not have internet access to my desktop. I followed your instructions about only having the modem and router connected and it was at that point that I lost the internet on my desktop.
My internet service provider gave me some trouble shooting tips, one of which was to unplug the router, which I did. I eventually was able to get internet access to my desktop, but lost the internet on my laptop.
Any suggestions? Would I need to use the Linksys software on my laptop to add my desktop to the wireless network? I also tried connecting the desktop to the modem and restarting the modem, no luck.
Thanks for you help.
I had a bit of a set back today - I was using the internet on my laptop when all of a sudden I lost connection to the internet. Everything said I was connected but could not open up my IE. So I went through all the trouble shooting tips you gave me and was eventually able to get the internet back on my laptop. I think maybe the problem could have been that my desktop was still connected to the modem.
In answer to your question, yes I have the internet on the laptop with the desktop being disconnected from the modem. I think the only thing left to do is buy a USB to Ethernet adapter.
Thank you for helping me out with this problem!

If you disconnect the desktop from the modem, were you able to get an Internet connection in your laptop?
In order to get Internet connectivity on your desktop at the same time with the laptop, then the desktop needs to be connected to the router. It should be connected to one of the Ethernet ports at the back of the router. Since, your desktop doesn't have an Ethernet port, then you need to connect a USB to Ethernet adapter to your desktop. Then from that adapter, you will connect to it an Ethernet cable going to the router.
You may check the following models:
Belkin Gigabit USB 2.0 Network Adapter(F5D5055)
There are other brands that offer USB to Ethernet adapters that you can check.
Hope this helps!
