Locked up sewing machine

I have a singer 20u33 commerical machine . I was just sewing and it locked up . I can't get it to move either way . I took the bobbin case out , it seems fine It's done this before but I don't know what I did to unstick , Seems like it finally just did .

I had pulled out visible thread before I emailed you with my problem . After your reply I thought there must be a thread I can't see . I loosened the bobbin case and found more thread . After I put back togather I had a hard time setting the timing of the needle . Is there a easier way to set that ? It's working now

    Thanks

    Hi,

I was using my 2662 model to sew fancy stitching on some denim squares when my machine jammed / locked up. I removed the cover over the bobbin and noticed that a lot of fuzz from the denim had built up, so I cleaned it out with my brush.

After it was still jammed, I even unscrewed and removed the cover over the needle area and re-cleaned the bobbin area several times.

The last thing I thought of was re-oiling the machine per a suggestion in the user guide. When I turn it on, it just hums and remains jammed.

Any suggestions? It's quite expensive to repair! Thank you!

Make sure the bobbin case sets sort of on top and not under the ridge of the metal ring. There is a small latch on the upper left of the bobbin case. It is metal. rotate the latch to cover the bobbin case and this should stabilize the case without making it immobile

It must not be inserted right, check your manual and if you do not have it handy, go to singerco.com and download one for free. You can cause real damage if it is loose, so be careful that something isn't broken and not letting it seat right.

Singer error codes

I just downloaded and took a look at the user's manual at the singer site--I recommend you do the same, the manual is invaluable. On page 29, it says the the bobbin winder is in operation. Typically, you engage the bobbin winder by moving a shaft over--move it back into sewing position.

How do I adjust timing on a Singer 20u33? I have the user manual, but that is not included.

THE HOOK IS UNDERNEATH THE PLATE. YOU WILL SEE IT SPIN AROUND OR ONLY A LITTLE OVER HALFWAY AND SPIN BACK TO BEGIN A NEW TIME. THE HOOK HAS TO MEET THE TOP OF THE NEEDLE HOLE AS THE NEEDLE IS RISING. (BENEATH THE PLATE.) WATCH THIS CAREFULLY WHILE ROTATING THE HAND WHEEL TOWARDS YOU. YOU WILL SEE THE NEEDLE AND THE HOOK MEET WHERE I SAID. IF THEY DON'T MEET AT THE RIGHT TIME THE THREAD FROM THE NEEDLE WON'T BE SNAGGED. TO CORRECT THIS YOU WILL HAVE TO LOOK IN THE BOTTOM PORTION OF THE MACHINE AND STUDY THE CRANKSHAFT FOR ADJUSTMENT HEX SCREWS. THIS CRANKSHAFT GOES TO THE HOOK. LOOSEN THE SCREWS AND MOVE THE HOOK SLIGHTLY TO MOVE THE HOOK UNTIL IT HAS BEEN TIMED WITH THE NEEDLE HOLE.

it would be a good idea to have the machine serviced at a sewing machine shop since it's been in storage for years

it possible that there is something wrong with the hook or hook race or even the sewing machine could be out of time,, it would be a good idea to have the machine checked..

Hand Wheel Won't Turn

The "Bobbin stopper" is in the incorrect position. It moves from side to side in a switch like motion. In one direction, it locks up the machine. That is, you can turn the wheele backwards, but not forward.. The bobbin stopper can be found in the book that cam with the machine. In our book, it is item #9.
