Hold down the function key on your keyboard (lower left hand side of your keyboard between the control key and the windows key) and the F8 key simultaneously. This cycles through all monitor set up modes.

My monitor seems to be stuck in sleep mode

This happens when there is no communication with video card. Check cables, re-seat video card, make sure monitor is set to correct mode. VGA (15pin blue), DVI (white), or HDMI.

Monitor stuck in safe power mode

"Power Save Mode" but it tells you to press a key or whatever?

were you able to reboot the PC?

if you can reboot the PC but no screen is showing up during Windows load (you can see the hard drive activity LED lighting up and your hard drive spinning), then, youre probably have a broken monitor.

Or if your problem is you cannot wake from power saving mode (after your PC goes to sleep, then its probably just the driver for your video card). VISTA has some issues with certain drivers that the PC cannot wake from sleep. http://www.ezsystemrepairs.com/

Stuck in power save mode

stlmeuzyk, Internal "switch-mode-power-supply"/"ccfl-inverter-supply" will probably need to be refurbished (repaired). Use Dell warranty first if valid option! Try monitor on different pc or verify your pc is working properly with old, but known-good monitor. If your E228WFP unit is still not working then you or qualified electronics technician will need to tear-down monitor to evaluate and repair the ac to dc power supply printed circuit board. Before you do anything read my fixya profile to learn flashlight test that every ccfl back-lit lcd monitor owner should know how to do and interpret the results of test. The basic design and operation of your E228WFP isn't any different than any other brand!!! Read the older solutions in my profile and follow the links you find there. Then do additional comment if need more info. Good luck with the repair. 12fixlouie

Monitor keep going into "sleep" mode

Check the power setting in control panel of windows. If you have a monitor from another computer swap them and see if the problem stays with the computer or monitor.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530

I have a Dell Inspiron 530S, and it exhibited the same symptoms as rguggemos's & Wilburollie's.

I can put it to sleep, but when I try to wake it, it won't. The screen will stay black. I can hear the drives spin up, and the fans go on FULL blast, and the blue power LED stays flashing, but the computer will stay like that - no picture or anything. Then I'd have to press & hold the power button to force it off, then power back on. Not ideal.

The solution that worked for me?! On boot, at the "DELL" logo, hit F2 to enter the BIOS setup, go to Power Management, and change the standby mode from S3 to S1. The difference? S3 is a "deeper" sleep, w/ more components powered off, which is better, energy-wise, but it is more difficult to wake from. S1 is a "light" sleep. Give it a shot! Maybe it'll work!

Good luck!

- Mike

Stolen from another forum:

S0 (Working) is lit. The CPU functions in entirety; the conservation of power is on a basis of by-device.

S1 (Sleep). The CPU is stopped; The RAM is regenerated; the system functions in reduced power.

S2 (Sleep 2) The CPU does not have any power; The RAM is regenerated; the system is in lower mode of the S1.

S3 (Standby) The CPU does not have any power; The RAM regenerates at minimum; the power supply unit is in mode of reduced power. This mode is also called “Save to RAM”.

S4 (Hibernate). All is powered off, but the memory was saved like temporary file on the hard drive. This mode is called “Save to disk”.

S5 (Off) Everything is shutdown. Means you need a full reboot.

My desktop pc has gone into power save mode

Turn the whole pc off then back on. If the LCD stays in power save then I would try a diffrent monitor on the PC. If that fixes it the the monitor is probably stuck in power save. Check www.lcdrpair.us for parts and instructions.

Stuck in sleep mode

Press the power button on the Computer it should come out of sleep mode then if it doesn't hold the power button of the computer down until the system turns completely off.

Then turn back on the computer should now boot fine. Once in windows goto control panel and select power option then adjust the setting.

Hope this helps you
