How do I turn off the initial startup sound

I don't want my TV to play the default startup sound when I turn it on.  Is there a way to turn it off?

I have the 32 inch a650 and I have the same annoying problem, the sound the TV makes on startup or powerdown wakes up the entire house!

IS there a way to turn this off or adjust the volume?

I found it in my operator's manual...  In the Menu under Setup then under "External Settings" there is something called "Melody Function" which can be set to Off, Low, Medium, or High.

By default windows 8 startup sound is disabled. To enable it go to search, type "Sound" go to "Sounds" tab - click "Windows Change Theme" - check the checkbox "Play Windows Startup sound" and select the sound you like.

In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.
Before going further; try a hard reset first. If it does not help you, replace the main digital board. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here.

How to get smooth sync from utube

Slow Windows Machine! Sounds like not enough resources such as RAM and CPU. Check Performance in Task-Manager (CTRL-ALT-DELETE). Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig > Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when you initiate.

When unit is turned on, it defaults to Vid1. My Direct TV Satellite is hooked up to CMP - component input. Is there any way to make the TV default to CMP when it is turned on?

Bring up the menu on your TV. At the bottom of the menu should be the Setup menu. Choose it and press OK on your remote. You will then get another menu and one of the choices will be Preferences. Highlight it and press OK. On the next menu choose Special Features and press OK. The last menu should have a choice titled Initial Channel. Highlight this choice and then using your Left and Right buttons on either side of the OK button you will be able to scroll through all of your channels as well as all of the Inputs that are on the back and front of your TV. Scroll through the choices until you see CMP. Then you can either highlight and choose the Go Back choices at the top left of each menu, or just press the Clear button on your remote until you exit the menu system.

Now when your turn your TV on it should default to CMP. The same menu that you chose CMP through will also allow you to choose the Initial Volume on startup,

Probably you are in "shop" mode of TV. Try to reset your TV and go through initial setup. Most important - choose "home" instead of "shop" when asked during initial setup. Resetting - keep up arrow pressed and switch of TV. Keep the button pressed when TV automatically switch back on. This will reset TV to factory defaults.
