I have purchased Norton anti-virus protection - but recently had to reset my laptop so all the previous settings were lost. I have tried sending Norton/Symantec eMails to ask how to restore this - but so far without result.
Re: I have purchased Norton anti-virus protection - but...
I suggest going with one of the free anti-virus solutions and ditching Norton. Try "AVG8 Free". I use it all the time and have never had a problem. It is free for personal use, but not free for corporate use. Just make sure you download the "free" version, not the commercial version.
The web address is: http://free.avg.com/download?prd=afe
A lot of people also like the free versions of Avira AntiVir personal, and Avast Home Edition.
Download.com (from C/Net) has them all as well, plus reviews.

1, get Real Anti Virus Protection. Norton or McAfee. 2 all is not lost. McAfee offer several solution in what they call Stinger. Norton will scan the computer before it tries to install and will remove your problem files as will McAfee. This is basically a bogus add someone clicked on that allowed it to install and until you get it gone it's going to keep popping those false adds up trying to get you back to the hack site that gave them to you to begin with. Download Stinger from McAfee for free and run it from a floppy or USB drive or Buy Norton and do the install. In fact, you could get the free trial and install that of either of these and they will clean your problem.
8 out of 10 computers have Norton Anti-Virus installed on their PC. Or you getting message to tell you to update your subscription? If so read on.
Have you notice that your PC is slowing down, or you getting blue screens, is your PC slow to boot, those your PC shutdown really slow. Are you getting pop-ups stating that your PC is infected. These are all symptoms of an out of date Norton Ant-Virus subscription. Even if you have have a current Norton Anti-Virus subscription you may still be infected.
OK, so here is how to fix your PC. First if you do not want to use Norton Anti-Virus anymore you need to remove it. You need to remove it from the control panel add/remove programs. You also need to get the Norton removal tool from Symantec, which makes Norton Anti-Virus. Watch my video from more details. Click here
So now your PC should be running better than before. Remember once Norton Anti-Virus is removed you need to scan it for viruses and then protect it. I recommend and personal use Avast, it is Free for home users and it simply works. Avast does not slow down your computer and it updates everyday with a visual and audio indicators. What more could you ask for. I use Malwarebyte's Anti-Mal wareon-line protection in conjunction with Avast for total protection. You can get that here. Try the free version first and it will get all those infections that Norton Anti-Virus failed to protect. Then upgrade to the Pro version if you need it. Here is the site http://www.malwarebytes.org/.
So now your PC is virus free and protected. What else can you do. I would get Ccleaner from www.ccleaner.com, this is also a free utility that I use. It removes all those temp files and other junk that is slowing down your PC. I do not recommend any registry programs. If you have any those on your PC. You need to remove them, they do not work.
The last thing you need to get is to de-frag your hard drive. I use this one. It is also Free so get it. Click here.
So now you are done and your PC should be a lot faster and better. However if you are still having issues you need to reload your whole operating system. Most people do not have the original CD so you will have to get a professional to do this. If you need help with that you can visit my site at www.adjustservices.com.
well download the latest ver of avg or any anti virus.paid anti virus work better then a free one. be sure you have uninstalled the previous anti virus. if send what problems you are facing. i help better
you better download or buy avast 4.8 home edition ! it is good . it gives your computer complete protection from viruses ,spy ware etc.the other way is to re- install the anti-virus(Norton) .give me high rating as i took time to answer your question..
If you have installed a free-trial copy, your subsrciption is expired & that is why you are getting this message. Purchase the norton anti-virus from their site. Even if you try to reinstall it, it won't let you..
In my experience Norton can become flakey at times. Make sure your subscription to norton has not expired. Otherwise try un-installing norton and re-installing it. Part of it may have become corrupted.
