Hello, low airflow or a low refrigerant charge will cause the unit to ice up, if the airflow is good then a set of guages will need to be attached to the unit to observe the operating pressures.

I'm looking to purchase a Rudd 2 stage model, 16 SEER, 5 ton along with a 100000 BTU 95% furnace. I have a two story home and will only be using the 1 AC. Will the Rudd cool both floors?

Assuming that there are ducts ran upstairs and downstairs, it all depends on the square footage of the living spaces, i.e. bedrooms, living room, dining room, etc. You need an average of 1 cfm per sq ft. For every 1 ton of air, you have an average of 400cfms. So your 5 ton unit will cool/heat 2000 sq ft. A 16 seer unit with a 95% furnace is a nice buy and you will notice the difference for sure. Hope this helps!

Rudd Achiever series model RQNJ-AO42JK 000 mfg

Turn the thermostat as low as it will go and have someone stand out side, they should here the condensor fan and compressor come on at the same time. They are two distinctive sounds so you should
be able to tell if the compressor is running.

If nothing happens and you are skilled with electrical
you can turn power off and remove the electrical
cover to the outside unit. Restore power and carefully
push in the contactor, if the fan and compressor
starts you have a thermostat or low voltage problem.

If just the outdoor fan runs on any attempt, more than likely you need a new capacitor.

We have a fairlynew 5 ton Central Ruud or Rudd unit that it is so noisy in the yard that we can not stay out there. We thinkit is the compressor. Help

I have a new 13 seer rheem or ruud same thing. I can not here it run. Uou must have a bad compressor. Ruud put schroll compressor in and when they start to go out they will drive you nuts they are so loud. Get it changed before your warranty runs out. Ruud will change your compressor if it to noisy. No problem. Russ

I have a rudd central air unit. The fan on the outside of the unit is not running. What could be wrong?

First check that you didn't drop a leg from your power service.

If there's power to the fan and it's humming like it's trying to turn, then you could have a bad fan or bad start capacitor. Pull the disconnect and check to see that the fan spins freely and does not wobble on its axis, if so, the fan is most likely ok. Replace the start capacitor.

If there is no power going to the fan, then there are several different ways to go. Check the fan first.

RUDD A/C not running, only fan

ok it unit is a central I'm suspecting a voltage transformer is defective you see these units need 24v to turn on certain components but if your air handler turns on, your getting 24v to the fan relay, the problem would be elsewhere. if your handy with a volt meter open the thermostat(if applicable) put the meter on ac volts and measure to see if there's 24v between the R and Y terminals

if so your cooling contactor is defective. (If you get 24 v and unit outside dosen't turn on) if there isn't some fuse on the air handler control board blew out.
