If you've explored all software errors that could cause this and the problem still persists, try to listen to the hard drive while the iPod is syncing. If you hear a repetitive read access sound coming from the iPod somewhere in the syncing process you may have a broken hard drive, if the HDD sounds just fine, it's more likely to be a broken logic board. You can try to replace those components yourself, there are ipod repair guide websites online that teach you iPod Repair skills to some extent, but you should have a little tech background to embark on such endeavors and definitely be PAST your warranty period already.

Most of the time, your iPod won't come up because of a slightly dodgy hard drive. There's a couple of ways to solve this. The first one would be to get another iPod of the same model from a trusting friend or something, take the back off and swop the hard drives. Then plug the other iPod in. It will want to restore. Go through the restore and then swop it back. It should ask to restore now in your iPod. The second one is to buy a zif 1.8" usb hard drive caddy from ebay (should be under £10). Open it and attach your hard drive, wait for it to be recognized by your PC, then right click on it and format it as FAT32. Put it back in your iPod and it should want to restore. Or, buy a new hard drive.

My son updated my 2g ipod touch on his (older?) computer. It is frozen now & won't go past a screen w/the itunes symbol & the usb plug. It will not restore. I have uninstalled & reinstalled...

  • This isn't an iTunes problem. While the iPod is displaying this logo, you need to plug it in to a computer that has iTunes open beforehand.
  • Try using another computer with iTunes installed, or another USB cable for the iPod. Try to restart by holding the sleep and home buttons for about 10 seconds.
  • If this still doesn't work, take the iPod to your local Apple store, where they can check for any hardware problems that may have occurred.

How to download music to i pod?

So how do I download music to my Ipod?

Downloading music from your hard-drive to you Ipod is done with the program called Itunes. This program comes with your Ipod purchase or can be downloaded at http://www.apple.com. The software is vital because it not only allows you to purchase from the popular Itunes music service, it's also the only way you can transfer songs onto your Ipod.

So let's look into the Itunes software, and more specifically, the Itunes library that is used to transfer songs from your hard-drive to your Ipod. You'll find it on the left hand panel of the program. Your library contains all your songs, movies, and podcast that you want to transfer over. Through the Itunes library, you'll be able to use their drag-and-drop feature for easy and fast transfer to your Ipod.

Before we move one to the next step, it should be made clear that songs that are downloaded from P2P clients might not show up on the Itunes library. You must add them manually, because you will not be able to transfer any songs until they are integrated into your Itunes library. Doing this is simple. Click on file>add file to library, locate the file you want to add, and press enter to complete the process. There is also the 'add folder to library' function which allows you to transfer a whole folder of songs into the Itunes library. This is quite handy to have if most of your songs are stored in one place on your hard drive.

Alright, let's get back on track here. You know the proper steps in which to keep your Itunes library updated now, and the last step is a breeze. Plug in your Ipod to the USB port in your computer, and you'll notice the new option to add songs from your Itunes library to the Ipod. Click and drag your files into the Ipod transfer screen and then you're done! You're now ready to explore the wonderful world of music without the burden of a large cumbersome computer to haul alongside you!

I cant get the music from my pc to ipod.

If you have itunes loaded on your pc and your are updating the music from itunes to your ipod it should be okay, unless you have moved the folder which contains your music. If you have you will need to open itunes go to file>add folder to library and add your music folder, It will update your library with your music files. Then plug your ipod in and it should automatically update your ipod if you have already created a playlist for it. hope it helps. theres is a new version of itunes out now. If you haven't got it already then download it (its free) and take it from there. You need to add the music to itunes, just go to add folder (or file) to library and choose the path where your music is. Good luck

Unlocking my ipod nano

There is only one way - and it will erase all your songs:

If you lock your iPod nano screen and can’t unlock it
Normally, if you can connect your iPod nano to the computer it is authorized to work
with, your iPod nano automatically unlocks. If the computer authorized to work with
your iPod nano is unavailable, you can connect iPod nano to another computer and
use iPod Updater to restore your iPod software. See the next section for more
information.
If you want to change the screen lock combination and you can’t remember the
current combination, you must restore the iPod software, and then set a new
combination.
Updating and Restoring iPod Software
You can use iPod Updater to update or restore your iPod software. Apple periodically
updates iPod software to improve performance or add features. It is recommended that
you update your iPod nano to use the latest software. You can also restore the software,
which puts iPod nano back in its original state.
â If you choose to update, the software is updated, but your settings and songs are not
affected.
â If you choose to restore, all data is erased from your iPod nano, including songs, files,
contacts, photos, calendar information, and any other data. All iPod nano settings are
restored to their original state.
To update or restore iPod nano with the latest software:
1 Go to www.apple.com/support/ipod and download the latest iPod Update. The update
has the latest software for all models of iPod.
2 Double-click the software installation file and follow the onscreen instructions to install
the iPod update.
3 Connect iPod nano to your computer and open iTunes. The iPod Updater application
opens.
If you’re using a Windows PC and the iPod Updater application doesn’t open
automatically, you can find the updater by choosing Start > All Programs > iPod.
4 Follow the onscreen instructions to update or restore iPod software.
If you use the iPod Updater application and it doesn’t recognize that iPod nano is
connected to your computer, reset iPod nano (see page 45).
If you want to restore iPod software and you don’t have an Internet connection, you
can use the iPod Updater application that was installed on your computer when you
installed the software from the iPod CD.
