Shut off all of a sudden and makes this ringing sound

Hi I was watching tv when all of a sudden it blacked out and made this continuous, high-pitched ringing sound. It did not stop until I unplugged it. Then when I plug it in, it won't turn on but the noise continues. What could be the problem and how much do you think it would be to fix it? Thanks. -Desmond

Re: Shut off all of a sudden and makes this ringing sound

The most likly cause of this type of symptome is a shorted horizontal o/p transistor. typicall the part is 10 to 40 cdn. labour will depend on your local service shop rates. it takes abot 30min to 1h. to chane typically (if no problems are run into.). good luck.

Trouble turning on tv. High pitched noise/click.

The mainboard might have some loose components, or cold solder , or may be the filter capacitors are becoming faulty. Yes it is worth repairing, bring it to the repair shop. Cheers.

Orion STV2551 27"TV...

The flyback transformer, and some other components may have failed. The main power supply may also be damaged.

It is impossible to know the exact failed parts without trouble shooting the set.

Sylvania Television shut down suddenly with a high pitch sound at the back

TV's have a circuit that monitors the high voltage and shuts down the set if it senses something amiss.
Figure on replacing the flyback transformer.
Hope ya fix it!

Weird noise over everything

According to the Samsung website: "The high pitched sound you hear is probably coming from the flyback transformer. The flyback transformer converts the relatively low voltage electricity that comes from the outlet in your home to the high voltage electricity needed to drive the cathode ray tube in your TV. It is not unusual for a flyback transformer to buzz softly when it operates. However, if the sound is loud and high pitched, it probably means the transformer is failing. To eliminate the sound, you will have to get your TV serviced."

No Picture

Rarely picture tube also shows the same symptom. High pitch sound is due to through deflection area LOT power supply is loaded. Compulsary horizontal output transister short. From your statement i think Lot puncture takes place. Change LOT and horizontal output transister and check tv is now working.

High pitch sound and fuzzy

The high pitched sound, probably not, unless you open this TV set and find out what is making the noise and replace the part. Most likely a coil or transformer is vibrating so fast that the frequency is very high. On the focus, possibly can be adjusted. Now when you take off the back of this TV set, i must warn you, follow my instructions to the letter as there is enough High Voltage in this set to make a grown man cry! After you take out all of the screws off the rear cover, carefully lift up the cover straight up. Oh by the way the TV should be face down. Opps! Not stand back up the TV set and there will be a Grey or black block like looking thing with a large red wire going to the top of the picture tube. on this block you will find two controls, one will say screen, and the other will say focus. DO NOT ADJUST ANYTHING ELSE WHEN YOU ARE IN THIS TV SET!!! No slowly rock the focus control back and forth till you get the sharpest picture. Put back on the back cover and enjoy!!! Good Luck
