Sato uses outside wind ribbon and inside label.
you shouldn't have to configure anything as long as the ribbon spindle turns and registers movment

Most ribbons wind to the outside of the spools. Take the ribbon off, type and watch the take up spindels to see whitch way it moves and install the ribbon that way.

I have a royal 2000 typewriter the ribbon keeps getting tangled up.please advise

You may have the ribbon installed wrong. About 95% of typewriters with fabric ribbons wind to the outside but a few wind to the inside. Type with the ribbon off and watch the take up ratchet and installthe ribbon so it winds that way

I have an OLD Underwood (non electric) tyrpwriter and don't how to install the two reel ribbon...please help...

First determine which way the ribbon turns most wind to the outside but a few wind to the inside. Put the ribbon on the posts so it winds properly then put it thru the reversing arms. then thread it thru the lifter you'll have to figure that by yourself as there many different set ups.

I just installed a new ribbon on my olympia deluxe and the ribbon keeps getting loose. Could that be because I installed the ribbon wrong? What could be the problem?

You probanly installed it wrong. Most T/W's spooled ribbons wind to the outside of the spool, however there were a few that wind to the inside. Withe the ribbon off type & watch the spool mech. install the ribbon so that it will wind onto the spool.

How to insert the ink ribbon in a Canon calculator CP1213D

A lot of trial & error but finally figured it out. The ribbon winds around the outside guides towards the number cartridge or wheel.

Can someone tell me how to install a ribbon in an old underwood typewriter?

Almost all manual typewriters are roughly the same. The ribbon winds to the outside of the spools, put it on the spindles that way, from the spool to the outside of the guide roll, tru the slot in the reversing arm tru the ribbon lift and back the same way to the other spool.

Does anyone know how to thread a ribbon in an old underwood typewriter?

I'll try as they are all pretty much the same. First type with the ribbon off to determine witch way the ribbon winds either to the outside (most common) or to the inside. Drop the ribbon on, if there is a reversing eyelet in the ribbon be sure it is wrapped onto the spool. The ribbon comes off the spool then there may be a guide or roll for it to pass around, then it will go thruogh the reversing arm then through the ribbon lifter aback the opposite way to the other spool DickyO

I'm trying to thread a ribbon through my old underwood 11 typewriter. Does anyone know the steps to doing this?

First, type a few letters to find out which direction the spools wind the ribbon (either to the inside or outside). Make sure the spools are installed to wind the ribbon in the correct direction. Second, make sure there is some ribbon wound in the empty spool so the eyelette on the ribbon for automatic reverse does not cause a jam by getting on the carriage side of the reverse guide. Take one spool in each hand, and let just enough slack in the ribbon to insert it behind the ribbon guide next to the platen. Note: the ribbon must go behind the two middle fingers of the guide and in front of the two outward fingers of the guide. If the guide has downward hooks on the outward guides, make sure the ribbon goes under the hooks to prevent the ribbon from bouncing out of the guide during typing. Next, make sure the ribbon passes through the metal guide fingers in front of the ribbon spool holders (these are for the automatic reverse - make sure the metal eyelettes in the ribbon stay on the spool side of the fingers or you will not get a reverse, and the ribbon will jam). Place the spools on the spindles of the spool holders. If the spool is hard to mount, check to see if there is a slot in the ribbon spool to align with a lever or mechanism on the spool holder of spindle. Hope this helps.

Ribbon empty

Winding technique:
To wind a new ribbon, take the cartridge housing apart and remove the old ribbon and two cardboard cores. The new ribbon is fitted with the larger roll (the ink ribbon supply spool) at the rear side of the cartridge (as the housing is viewed when it is normally installed into the machine). The ribbon winds over the topside of the rear spool (the supply side) and feeds into the underside of the front spool (the take-up side). Make sure the ribbon is wound neatly, evenly and is tight. If the ink film has become detached or is too loose on the front spool it will not wind on and cause a machine error. If required, use a small amount of sticky tape to secure the ink film to the front cardboard spool and then neatly wind it on to the take-up spool a minimum of five turns, making sure the film does not overhang at the edges. Now reassemble the housing and refit into the machine.
If it’s still not fixed:
If problems persist after fitting a new ribbon, try replacing the entire ink ribbon unit (cartridge housing + a new ink ribbon) using a new, genuine Brother unit before requesting a service; this will be less expensive as the actual housing may have been damaged and is causing the problem and this unit is readily available as a consumable item through sales outlets. If the machine still has problems, book your machine in to be repaired with an authorised Brother Service Centre.

IBM Selectric used ribbon won't wind into spool

The ribbon sometime gets wrapped around the ribbon driver,One lever on the right side only releases the lift off tape for removal the other is for ribbon removal, also check that the ribbon is on the outside of the ribbon tensioner where the ribbon exits the cartridge on the left side ( a wire thing with a plastic tube on it.
