Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-60XS955 60" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

INTERMITTENT PICTURE AND SOUND

SET TURNS ON AND GREEN POWER LIGHT IS ON. PICTURE AND SOUND FOR ABOUT 30-45 SECONDS, THEN LOSE BOTH PIC AND SOUND FOR ABOUT 45 SECONDS, THEN JUST KEEPS REPEATING IN THAT PATTERN. GREEN POWER LIGT IS ON AND I HAVE NO FLASHING LIGHTS ANYWHERE. TOLD COULD BE LAMP, BUT DOES THAT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE SOUND? PIC IS FANTASTIC AND SOUND IS CLEAR WHEN THEY ARE ON.

    My problem began this morning.
TV tries to turn on... green lamp blinks. After 20 to 30 seconds I get sound and a very dim (almost not there picture) and the tv shuts off. Once I had the red light which blinked a sequence of 5.

I was told to unplug the television for about an hour. Also sent my wife down to pick up a new projector bulb. I replaced this bulb about 14 months ago (this is the second bulb since purchasing the tv April of 2005.

Is this a bulb problem or something more sinister?
    TIA.

my tv is shuting off every 30-45 seconds, sound and picture. i noticed on the back of it; when it does this the blue colored light goes out as well. How do you fix this or has anyone received quotes for fixing in the Las Vegas, NV area?

You were told correctly, you have a bad lamp. When the lamp gets old, the reflector becomes cloudy and instead of reflecting the light, it converts it into heat. As the lamp heats, it draws more power, eventually too much power and the set "recycles" because the lamp is drawing too much power. Replace the lamp, use an original Sony lamp as the aftermarket replacements are known troublemakers. If the bulb fixes the problem (and I know it will because I fix these TV's everyday) be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

You tv used lamp XL-2400 or also known as F93087500. It is very common for this bulb to fail and have the exact symptom you are experiencing. I cant count how many times I have seen it.. Replace the lamp with either the exact Sony or an OEM and you will be back in business..
Good Luck!!

You turn it on, and it turns itself off.

Your set is activating the "protection mode" that indicates a likely defect in the power supply (the section that develops the various operating voltages for your set) or the Horizontal output section. (The part that scans the picture from left to right) Since it's a projection TV there is also circuitry that will shut it down to protect the tubes in the event of a failure. You will need a house call to find that defect.

Picture & sound go on & off every sec, red light blinks 5 times

helloFive blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen slightly.
