My console, no matter what i do will not read FFXII. It keeps telling me i dont have a controller plugged in to port 1. I know the controller is good, the memory card is good, the disc is good, and my console will read other discs just fine, its just this one game. I'm thinking its a software problem, because the lense is still good. How do i completely reboot my console, or do you have a better idea?
Something has to be different between FFXII and another PS2 game. This could be color of the media side, or it could be CD or DVD format. Most likely it is CD format and your CD laser diode is failing. Try a Music CD to see if it will work. If it is a PS2 slim, I suggest a new laser.

Sounds like you have wireless Controllers. Be sure your batteries are good on the Controller and the controller is turned on, LED should light. Plug the receiver into the controller jack, and it should light up at least one LED. If you have channel number selector, set it to the same number on the controllers, channel selector.
If old wired controllers will work, then you have dud wireless controllers. I know that cheap poor quality wireless controllers exist out there. You may have a dud. I also know that sometimessomething kills the controller ports on the PS2. The only way to know is to hook a wired controller you know works into the port to see if the port is good or bad.
It may be just a dirty lense.. if it is the large style ps2 they are easy to take apart and clean the lense.. just use a q tip with very little rubing alcohol and clean it and remember were everything goes to put it back together.. its really not to hard to do.
I believe the SCPH-version 30000 through 50001 use the UBD ports for Playstation Specific Devices like the eyetoy. The Slim PS2 has is more diversified and can read USB devices just like a computer. To get details on your PS2, you can get detailed instructions at www.playstation.com. sign up and go to Support for your older version PS2 and read up on connecting to the USB port. You may find out how to actually do it. I have not tried my self. I wish I could help more.
There is a problem with the controller port PCB. Either one of the pins have snapped or a component on the Controller port board has broken down. Can be easily replaced with a spare off an auction site. Jon
