Open Question

No video, but with audio Sony LCD 42'' kfd e42a10

Initial Symptoms: Will only turn on first thing in the morning (after overnight tv off). If you turn it off, it will not turn on again. Then in the evening when I com back from work, it will turn on fine again. If I turn it off, it will not turn again. It happens for several weeks.

This week it wont turn on at all but audio is fine. If I turn it on, the green light will blink several times, followed by red blink then it will turn off.

4 blinks is a fan error. I would take the back off and look to see if the fans that are visable are spinning when you try to turn it on. If you see one that is not spinning it needs to be replaced. If all the fans you can see are spining then there may be some fans that are hidden, in this case you will need to be able to use a meter to determine what fan to replace. Let me know what you find!

SOURCE: sony bravia l42" LCD TV. No power. Green light on

7 blinks in the this series(KLV) means there is a short in the power supply board. The easiest way to fix this would be to swap out the board. I can find you a replacement if you want to try fixing this yourself.

Hi,

The Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in the TV. The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue.

Few examples are given below; some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service.
1 blink / 2 blinks / 5 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set.
3 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If the power light flashes three times in sequence in a Lamp TV, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue.
4 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a back light or lamp power problem.
6 blinks: - This indicates that there is some kind of audio problem with your set.
7 blinks: - This indicates that there is a temperature problem with your set. Please check to make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the set are not blocked or clogged and there is adequate ventilation around the television. We recommend that you check and clean the vents periodically to make sure the set receives adequate air flow. If the problem continues, the set will need to be serviced.
8 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a video-related problem with your set. If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset:
Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Turn off the television.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.

If the issue continues to occur, service may be required.

Thanks for using Fixya.

SOURCE: Sony kdf-e42a10 green light blinking, followed by solid red lamp light - tv will not respond to power button

Follow instructions in owner manual and remove and inspect lamp to see if shattered inside.

Most of these sets have a 2,000 hour life span on the lamp which is customer replaceable.

Yes, if lamp has not been replaced in last 2-3 years then it is lamp problem. If tv does not shut down and its standby light does not blink in red then lamp is cause of problem, replace it to fix tv issue.

SONY MODEL KDF-E42A10

Sony model KDF-E4210 TV works fine for about 20-30 minutes on HMDI video 6. After that, the HD channels scramble (wavy video). I have swapped out and used the component cables and the same thing happens. Time Warner came out to check their box and all checks out.

Coincidentally, this started after I purchased a Wii and go back and forth from Video 2 (wii) to Video 6. Now is happens just on Video 6 after 20-30 minutes. Could this be an issue with the TV?
