Okay so I'll just give you my details first Model: Acer Aspire 5735 Pocessor: intel core 2 duo T5800 @ 2.00GHz Ram: 3.00GB System type: 32bit operating system Neither the C nor D drives are full My laptop keeps shutting off, I'm not sure why. I think it might be a virus or an error some kind.I know it's probably not overheating because this problem only seems to occur when I'm not in safe mode. I can be on as much as I want, in safe mode. However, loading up the computer normally has become nearly impossible at most I can get 2 minutes out of my computer, before my laptop just turns off, no shut down no error message just off. It also sounds like it's over heating the fan goes wild right before it shus down but it's not getting hot at all. And in my limited experiance RAM problems have been acompanied by lots of beeping, my laptop doesn't peep. Also the battery/power are fine. So here is what I know: It works in safe mode. It shuts off after a few miutes, at most, in normal mode. It doesn't seem to be over heating because it's not getting hot. It sounds like it's over heating but isn't actually even warm. I get no error messages. It doesn't beep a lot, typical (from what I know) of RAM errors. And, the power if fine. Any help would be appreciated. Oh, and can you make any instuctions clear, I'm not the most tech savy.
Check your Power Options in the Control Panel. They might be set to turn the computer or LCD off. Set them up high or set them to NEVER.
Or your problem might be that fan that you say goes wild right before it shuts down. You might need to replace that fan. And when you replace the fan, put a fresh coat of Thermal Paste on the CPU and Heat Sink.
i would also check the CMOS Battery and replace it. It's on the motherboard and is about the size of a nickel. It's shiny or it will be in a vinyl covering.
Thanks for the advice, replacing the Thermal Paste seems to be my last option. Everything else seems fine, still I find it strange that safe mode seems to work fine...
Before changing the Thermal Paste try downloading and installing MalwareBytes and run a Quick Scan to see if you have a virus or infection. You said it runs fine in safe mode. Safe Mode keeps the virus or infection from being able to operate.
Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE MODE. Take the Safe Mode With Networking option (this will give you internet connectivity) and let it boot up. Safe Mode will look different to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this is normal. Open your internet browser and download and install MalwareBytes, then run a Quick Scan.
Go to www.google.com and in the search box type: "Download cnet Malwarebytes" (without the quotes). Download and install malwarebytes from the sites download.cnet/malwarebytes. When the site opens up click on the Green Download button on the left. Do not click the Red Download button, that's junk. When it finishes installing the Gui Interface will open up with an offer to Accept a Trial Version or Decline. CLICK DECLINE you want the totally free version. Run a QUICK SCAN. As it scans, if it finds infections the number will be in red. When it finishes scanning, click SHOW RESULTS. A notepad text document will open up showing you the results. You can close the text document and go back to the Gui Interface where you will click REMOVE SELECTED RESULTS. The objects will already be selected for you. When it finishes removing the objects click ok and it will sometimes reboot your machine.

this is an overheating problem, computer have a thermal protection sensor that senses extreme temp.
i suggest return to your service provider and have them check again, it could probably cause by, the fan isnt plug or there is a lot ob obstruction to exhaust that tned to build up heat around your pc
Testimonial: "You were right. The next time I turned on the Acer laptop I noticed the fan was not running at all. Sent to Acer repair work fine now!"
SOURCE: Computer randomly shuts down in Safe Mode only
I can't think of any reason why you would want to run in safe mode except if the computer crashes your system. If you have a heat problem in safe mode it is shutting down to protect you CPU and GPU which are two things you won't want to replace. If you are over clocking you CPU that could cause this problem as the power management system is not active in Windows when you run safe mode. If your system is under warranty and you are concerned about this problem ask them to do a warranty repair. If it's not under warranty you can take it to Best buy and explain the problem and ask for a PC health check. Last I heard they were still doing those for free. At this point though I would avoid running the PC in Safe Mode
