Question about Compaq Presario 2100 and 2500 ,NX 9000 Pavilion ZE4000 Ze5000 XT Series Keyboard -AEKT1TPU011 CD-ROM Drive
Down. When accessing anything to do with computer, ie windows explorer, send a file somewhere, computer hangs up, freezes up or sometimes just shuts the system down.....thoughts?
My first thought would be to immediately check the processor fan for dust build up on the heats ink since a pretty common issue with allot of laptops is that a small layer of dust builds up on the heatsink sort of like a thin blanket that prevents the air from cooling the heatsink like it is supposed to and that of course causes the cpu to overheat and one of the first signs of overheating is the whole thing freezing up.. And at first it may just happen when doing something extensive that requires allot of cpu power but after a while as the dust layer gets a little thicker it will happen more frequently and could result in a dead cpu after a while. (I have seen this situation countless times)
only problem is that if there is not an access door (removable piece of plastic) on the bottom that allows direct access to cpu fan and heatsink then you will probably have to take apart the laptop somewhat to be able to see if that is the problem (if you do not feel comfortable taking apart the laptop then I would suggest it in to a shop and having them do it since it shouldn’t cost a fortune since its not like they are replacing the motherboard or anything ) since there is really no way to shine a flash light into the vents and see the dust because the layer of dust builds up on the other side of the fan and usually at the other end of the heat pipe on the fins of the heatsink and is usually impossible to see through the vent. (See picture of this for your model computer that i uploaded to my website here: http://systemonenetworking.com/compaqhs.jpg )
NOTE: if you’re going to be attempting to do the repair yourself try to make note or which screws you remove from where since some of them are different lengths for a reason And be extra careful of ribbon wire connections when separating panels and so on
