Question about HP LaserJet 4 plus Printer

1 Answer

Poor print resolution.

Greetings All; Am the proud owner of an HP Laserjet4+ and (up to now) it's been working fine. However (now) when I print, the printing contrast is very light (grey looking). I've checked the toner cartridge, it's okay (not low) and (also) tried a brand new cartridge - no difference! I've double checked the printer's settings (via the internal facilities) in case the settings may have been altered without my knowledge, but to no avail. Note! the print clarity is not affected, I.e. there's no smudging or marks on the paper, just light print contrast. I know it's not the software, as the problem exists when I use the (on board) self test facility. One thing, the machine was turned off for a long while (8 weeks) for safety reasons as the office wasn't being used. Any ideas? Please advise Thanks and regards Chris Dermott

Re: Poor print resolution.

Ok, here is the list of things the typical user can check: -Toner supply could be low, even a new cartridge could cause this if it was a refill job, third party or very old. -Print density is set too low, change via the printers menu. -EconoMode is turned on, turn off via the printers menu. -The papers moisture, conductivity or surface finish may not meet specs, try a higher quality paper or a fresh ream. -High voltage connecter to the toner cartridge is not making good contact. Make sure the sprint contacts that connect the printer to the cartridge are making good contact and are clean. Here are the things to check that would require spare parts and are not for the typical user: -Transfer roller is defective or installed incorrectly. -Laser/Scanner is defective. -DC controller is defective. How can I print to my HP Color LaserJet 3550 from my Windows 7 Home Premium OS Toshiba Satellite C655 Laptop. The printer works, but HP says there are no drivers to support it. How can this be? Please...

If Hp does not have a drivr to support it then you are out of luck unless you find someone that hacked drivers to work with it. If they have Windows Vista drivers, you can try those but they are not goign to guarantee to work.

not all equipment from Xp works with vista or 7. Xp is not the same OS or even same breed as Vista/7

Will HP laserjet4 plus print on card? If so how?

Depends on the weight (thickness) of the card. Assuming it's not too thick, feed it in through the manual tray (the flip-down tray on the front).

Printer is dark

Go to Start > printers and faxes> right click on the laserjet4 icon>
properties > click on printing preferences on the first page > click advance on the next page > under Graphics, you will see print quality. Change it to either 600x600 or 1200x1200. The higher the number, the darker the print.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Printer only prints half a page

this is a driver problem, try reinstalling the printer with the laserjet4 driver which is a universal PCL driver, this should solve the problem. If not, there is also a blank HP Laserjet driver

HP LaserJet4

In the printer driver, make sure you have the paper sizes set correctly  etc. Go over all the basics first.

Make sure that the options set under the "Device Settings" and "Advanced" tabs are relevant to your media and page sizes.

The chances are a setting in the driver has been changed by mistake.
