Question about Sony ST-D777ES 2 Channels Tuner

Open Question

Unable to receive DAB stations

I got this tuner (Sony ST-D777ES) some time ago. At first it worked ok, not great but that was pobably due to the reception (not all stations could be received well). Now I moved to a new area, but scanning at first using the wire antenna, got stuck at 12D. So I bouht an external antenna for both digital TV and DAB. Scanning went smoothly now, but absolutely no stations were received! Whatever I did, no matter how often I scanned, nothing was stored. I have a small DAB in the kitchen and that scans lightning fast and received all the channels perfectly fine, but this sony unit just doesn't seem to receive anything. After scanning DAB and FM, all I have is all the FM channels. When I switch to DAB and turn the knob to dial in to another station, it simply says there are no presets. Does anyone know what this problem may be? DO I need to reset the unit to factory settings somehow? can anyone tell me how I do that? Or is it just broken and needs servicing?

SOURCE: Don't receive hardly any FM stations

Well I would consult your manual.  Home receivers usually dont have the same amplification factors that a mobile unit does as far as sensitivity.  But for best results make sure that you are using the supplied antenna, and put aluminum foil over it.  This will help amplify the signal.  Also consult the manual as to weather there is a setting for DX or Local.  If there is, make sure that it is not set to local.

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.

Fm radio works fine but the dab will not find any stations, I have tried different aerials and still no good

What's the make & model of the radio?
Most DAB/FM radios work from the same antenna, so if you receive FM stations, you should receive DAB stations in your area.
It should be noted that DAB transmitters work on lower power than conventional FM transmitters, and so you may be in a weak reception area (for DAB). It should also be noted that DAB uses different frequencies than regular FM stations and household appliances such as laptops,WiFi, microwave ovens, etc can affect DAb reception.

Hi! Sony tuner st-sa5es,stereo lighting is bliking, signal is very good and sound is stereo for short time and mono for short time.Ihave indoor aerial Fanfare,Thankyou.

I still think it is antenna orientation or there is interference. it probably works well on mono perfectly. if not then it is a defective tuner module inside the receiver.

How to program pre-sets on a Sony tuner ST-S100L

Tune in the correct station with the big +/- buttons. Then press "memory" then type in a number with the pad (it will do double digits, but normally a single digit is preferable) then press "enter"

Now typing in that number then pressing enter will take you to that station.

Good luck.

DAB radio model Sharp FV-DB1E

This is SwannerX and I have solved the problem by locating the DAB radio receiver to a higher position ( some 6ins. higher only ) and orienteering the aerial in an opposite direction.
All 25 stations now tune O.K. and signal quality still reads in the high 90's and signal strength shows 9-10 bars. This is not substantially any more , but it has done the trick!!!
I am still very puzzled why it would not work again in the original position where it has worked well for many years.
Obviously DAB requires a good strong signal as I am living very close to the transmitter at Mounteagle in the Black Isle and the set is upstairs in the house to achieve the highest signal into the set's whip aerial.
Another annoying query I can give you is this :- Every time I do a full AutoTune operation on the DAB receiver , it ALWAYS comes ON tuning BBC Asian 1st. so that station comes up as a 'Favorite' on the Radio's screen. No matter how many other stations I select and listen to for at least 20secs. say, the BBC Asian one STILL is listed as a FAV.
Is this a peculiarity of the Sharp design or a function of the transmission system?
Maybe this BBC Asian is on the first freq. the DAB Radio scans, but I would have thought it would come ON every time with the last station which was selected before it was switched OFF.
What do you think ???
