thanks so much...is that an expensive thing to fix...someone else said they thought it might be the thermostat...it does not sound like you think that is the case...right? thanks again

thanks so much for your help...do you think this is something we can try to do ourselves...or should we hire someone? I have now gotten an estimate of $160 to fix the issue and that includes 95 dollar house call charge...does sound fair, right? thanks so much for your help!!

the part is problably about $75, its not going to be a thermostat issue, the thermostat sends power to the ignitor, and the ignitor is glowing so its gettin power.if you do this repair, be very carefull, the nes ignitor is very fragile, and unplug the unit first, there are live wires ,near assy

thats a fair est, if you dont feel comfortable with the repair definitely worth the expense

Finding the flame pilot on a caloric prestige series gas stove

There is no pilot. The igniter is in the oven cavity under the floorpan. This is a picture of the regulator and gas valve- the wire nuts at the top of the pic just left of center are on the leads that go to the igniter...

Caloric range oven, older at least 20 years old, the range burners spark, but will not light, i am assuming that its electronic ignition, no pilot light?

If you don't smell gas, then it is probably electronic ignition and not a pilot light.

But if your oven and none of the range burners light, are you sure you are getting gas to the unit or from the range valve to the burners and oven? Can you light the burners with a match? If you can you can rule out the valve and incoming gas line, and concentrate on the ignitors.

Caloric Gas Range Model #355 19 years old. Is there a replacement ignitor available to replace the old one?

Being that your range is 19 years old it might be a bit difficult to find the correct igniter but not impossible. The model number that you gave is not giving any good results. You can go here http://www.repairclinic.com/Caloric-Range-Stove-Oven-Parts?s=b74a13c249 and look at these igniters to compare with the one on your range. You might get lucky and one of these could be a replacement that will work. Most local range parts suppliers are very helpful on locating hard to find parts but you may need to remove the igniter and bring it in so they can match it up in their catalog. You might also be able to find the correct igniter if you use the part number on the ceramic igniter housing to do a parts search with. Most 20 year old ranges use a standard "flat style" hot surface igniter but there are different OHM ratings for some igniters and this rating is important for you to match up correctly with your current igniter OHM rating or you could damage the gas control valve and/or the new igniter.

For caloric gas range, the bake function did not kick in after setting the temperature dail. Display window shows on but no gas burning. Temperature stays at 100 degrees.

Usually when an oven won't bake, it's because the bake igniter is weak or burned out. The igniter is a small, round or rectangular device, that's about 1 inch by 4 to 8 inches. It's near the burner itself.

The burner is the tube-type device the gas flows through before it's ignited. It has many small holes on the sides to let the gas, when ignited, form a long, low flame. If the igniter is weak, if it glows red but doesn't get hot enough, or if it's burned out, the gas doesn't flow to the burner and the burner won't ignite. If this is the problem, you may need to replace either the igniter or the gas safety valve. Usually the igniter is to blame.

Other causes Other reasons that your oven may not bake are:

  • The clock settings are incorrect (if you have timed baking or a self-cleaning oven).

  • The thermostat is defective.

  • The safety valve that prevents accidental gas flow is defective.

  • The selector switch is defective.

if this helps please vote me a fix ya
