How do you download photos from G1 phone to a laptop?
I tried the USB port adapter between my phone and computer, except that the computer isn't reading a device to get photos from.
any advice is much appreciated.
Lisa
Step 1: Plug in your USB cable to your G1 T-mobile phone as well as the computer.
Step 2: On your G1 T-mobile phone you will see a small icon at the top of the screen that symbols the USB.
Step 3: Pull down the notification window down and click on USB Connection.
Step 4: Automatically on your laptop computer or just computer a window will pop up giving you the option of importing pictures and copying them or just viewing them.
These steps are the correct steps.....T-mobile G1 technical support has not yet modify these steps or include them on the T-mobile G1 manual.

When you connect your g1 to the computer, you will get the little sound and the computer will detect the device but doesn't pop up the autorun. the easy solution is that you will see the little usb symbol on the phone in the upper left hand corner in the notification area. slide the notification area down and you will be given the choice to copy files to/from the phone to your computer. when you select that, you are given an option to mount the drive onto your computer. accept that, and then the computer will do the autorun thing giving you access to the memory card from the computer without having to pull it out of the phone.
Hello Lisa,
When you plug the USB cable into your computer does the computer recognize a new device?

So far so good! Does the F: drive have folders in it you can explore or is it empty?
I am not having any luck seeing a specific fix this problem. I will continue to research tomorrow and see if I can find a fix.

I think I found a little nugget of joy...
go into settings, sd card & phone storage, then when you connect the usb cord in your computer or g1. check the "Use for USB storage" to have it connect to your computer. Then to reconnect the sd card to your G1 just uncheck the "Use for USB storage"

Okay here is some more info:
I was having a similar issue to that of the original poster in that I had photos on the G1 which I couldn't seem to get off of it and onto my PC using the USB cable.
The instructions say to select "Use for USB Storage" in the "SD card & phone storage" settings menu, but I wasn't even getting this option in the settings menu - even with the cable connected.
Meanwhile, on the (XP) PC, I was seeing the USB disk device from Windows Explorer. It was listed as "Removeable Disk", but the disk appeared empty and when I clicked on the disk in Windows Explorer, I would get a pop-up dialog that said "Please insert a disk into drive F:" (as this is drive F on my PC).
Call me dense, but it wasn't until a day later that I finally noticed that there was a notification in the top status menu when I connected the USB cable. If you drag down to look at the notifications menu, you should see an entry which says "USB Connected - Select to copy files to/from computer". All you need to do is touch this menu item and you will be prompted to Mount the USB. Choose "Mount". Once mounted, your USB will be connected and you will be able to see it from your PC - you can copy files to and from the card willy nilly.
I have yet to find anything in the manual that came with the phone that talks about the Mount option being in the Notifications menu. This is very confusing, especially since there are two (read two) different chapters entitled "Memory Card" - one in the "getting started" section, and one in the "having fun" section, and neither of these chapters mention anything about the disk "Mount" command, or the fact that you will need to hunt for this option in the Notifications menu. Instead, the manual sends you on a wild goose chase with incorrect instructions about finding the "Use for USB Storage" in the "SD card & phone storage" settings menu, as mentioned above.
Oh well, now that I'm done venting, I am a happy G1 user once again as I now have my pictures which I took last Thursday night at the "Tavern" restaurant/bar in Buckhead, Georgia - MAN what a bar! Never have I seen such a concentration of lively, beautiful women in one place!

How do i download to my laptop
If vsrights solutions don't do the trick:
I heard from T-Mobile that there is an over the air upgrade that is going out to all G1 phones. This will correct some problems with transferring pictures to your phone and computer as well as syncing music.
Contact 611 from your cell phone and say G1 support for details.
In the meantime if you have a SD adaptor for your memory card as well as a card reader from your cell phone, it will work as a drive.
You can transfer pictures to your photo album on t-mobile.com as well from your phone. Once they are in the album, you can upload them to your computer as well.
I have been having similar problems syncing music with the phone plugged in.

At the top of your phone display you will see a USB icon. Click on the top of the screen and mount the memory card. Your computer will recognize your memory card as a disk drive.
Click on my computer and select the letter for the memory card. Look for the photo folder.
T-Mobile is doing an over the air upgrade to fix some syncing problems this week.
Contact 611 from your cell phone and select G1 support for more information.

Yes, it reads Removable disk F:
My computer reads an F: drive yet when I try to have adobe photoshop go to F: drive, my computer says, please insert a disk into drive F:
thank you for helping...!
I appreciate your looking into it. I bet they won't have a clue at the tmobile store ;-) And there aren't instructions in the G1 user manual nor on Google search engine!
Thanks Vincent!

oh it would be a nugget of joy if I had that option appear "Use for USB storage." My SD card menu has 3 options: 1) total space 2) available space 3) unmount/eject SD card. Nothing happens when I click option 3. Though when I plug the USB cable the G1 says USB connected.
if you think of any other nuggets of joy for me, I much appreciate those gems.

You are a kind genius...! That worked. And I can't tell you how surprised because before that my photos were missing from the G1 phone altogether from all the futzing around with the SD menus option! My camera stopped working too. Maybe now that will also be resolved via that drop down menu with the mount feature. Bless you Bubbabear!!! Lisa
Ok i load photos on my phone from my computer but my phone does not recognize them. I downloaded a photo online directly to my phone and my phone reads that picture. Both photos, the one that my phone cant read and the picture my phone can read, are both j peg formats with similar file sizes. Am i looking in the wrong place or is this a glitch that has not been fixed. Or is there a better file format to put the pictures under.
