Vista has a well known flaw of not allowing you to easily change access rights after selecting "public network" in the initial network connection screens. The easiest fix is to change the name of your wifi access point, reconnect, and be absolutely certain to select "home network" when the prompt comes up.
The best solution however is to ditch that crummy excuse for an operating system and upgrade to Windows 7 or 8.
There might be a problem w/ your IP address or DNS server, try to open LOCAL AREA NETWORK CONNECTION STATUS in your laptop running xp, click support/details, Then copy the DNS server address and alternative dns server address.
open your vista go to Network Connection/LAN properties, then double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP, mark obtain ip address automatically, then the lower side Mark USE THE FOLLOWING SEVER ADDRESS then paste the dns server address which you copied from xp laptop. same w/ alternate dns server, and then click OK. DONE. JUST TRY IF ITS HELP FULL.
I don't know if this will work with Vista but in Windows 7 you can go to the speaker icon in the taskbar and click on the icon above the volume control. This will take you to the sound properties. Click the levels tab and mute the PC speaker. This worked for me.

the is only one solution, you have to have a program that will unlock the computer, I use a probuct here in my shop called Spotmau, that unlocks passwords, there is another method u might try first before you take it to a shop to unlock it, in the password dialog box type in the top admin, and in the password line type owner, that is the way gateway set their systems up to unlock the passwords when forgotten.
any further assistance you can send me a personal message and i will respond as soon as I get, I'll be glad to help in anyway I can.
