I just brought a new skimmer and it seems to be bubbling over. Is that normal?

The beckett has many similarities to the downdraft skimmer but introduced a foam nozzle to produce the flow of air bubbles.

The downdraft skimmer is designed to inject water under high pressure into tubes that have a bubble generating mechanism and carry the mixture down into the skimmer and into a separate chamber.

A protein skimmer is a device which removes organics in your tank by way of mass air bubbles. When the water passes through the skimmer, the air bubbles it produces allows the chemical compounds of organics to attach to the bubbles and ride to the surface where the gunk is collected.

The water flowing downward meets the bubble column flowing upward, this increases dwell time making the skimmer much more efficient.

Skimmers are very usefultools but are often forgone because of their bulk. Essentially, aquarium skimmers remove wastefrom your tank by producing bubbles that filter the undesirable material outand therefore lighten the load for the filter. They are generally used in saltwater tanks.

First connect hose to vacuum head mounted on handle. Put vaccum in water. Take other end of hose and hold over return outlet filling the hose with water until the vacuum floats up and all the air bubbles stop bubbleing. When it sinks again, hold your had over the hose and take it to the skimmer. If you have an adaptor plate for skimmer have it already on the hose. If you don't have one, then remove basket and quickly remove your hand and put hose down ito pipe in skimmer. You will get some air and once the pump recovers, and starts pupming, then begin vacuuming.
