I just brought a new skimmer and it seems to be bubbling over. Is that normal?

It is totally normal foryour skimmer to bubble over once you've initially set it up. I would lower the water lever in the skimmeruntil it still bubbles but does not overflow. It is ideal to have a foamy layer of bubbles just below the top of theskimmer.

What is a protein skimmer?

What is an air driven counter current skimmer?

The air driven counter current is using rising bubble in the tubes in order to move water upward. Small bubbles rise to the surface and larger bubbles are injected into a small tube in the skimmer body moving water from the bottom upward and back into the tank.

What is counter current protein skimmer?

A counter current is one of the methods used in aquarium water skimmers. The water to be processed enters the skimmer reaction chamber, then the air administered through a diffuser. The water flowing downward meets the bubble column flowing upward, this increases dwell time making the skimmer much more efficient.

A protein skimmer removes organics in your tank by way of mass air bubbles. When the water passes through the skimmer, the air bubbles it produces allows the chemical compounds of organics to attach to the bubbles and ride to the surface where this gunk is collected in a cup and you should dispose it.

How do you hook the vacumn to the skimmer?

First connect hose to vacuum head mounted on handle. Put vaccum in water. Take other end of hose and hold over return outlet filling the hose with water until the vacuum floats up and all the air bubbles stop bubbleing. When it sinks again, hold your had over the hose and take it to the skimmer. If you have an adaptor plate for skimmer have it already on the hose. If you don't have one, then remove basket and quickly remove your hand and put hose down ito pipe in skimmer. You will get some air and once the pump recovers, and starts pupming, then begin vacuuming.
