The beckett has many similarities to the downdraft skimmer but introduced a foam nozzle to produce the flow of air bubbles.
The downdraft skimmer is designed to inject water under high pressure into tubes that have a bubble generating mechanism and carry the mixture down into the skimmer and into a separate chamber.
A protein skimmer is a device which removes organics in your tank by way of mass air bubbles. When the water passes through the skimmer, the air bubbles it produces allows the chemical compounds of organics to attach to the bubbles and ride to the surface where the gunk is collected.
In most cases, needle and pin wheels are used to burst water which already contains air bubbles. This action eventually multiplies the number of bubbles as well as the surface area of the bubbles.
The air driven counter current is using rising bubble in the tubes in order to move water upward. Small bubbles rise to the surface and larger bubbles are injected into a small tube in the skimmer body moving water from the bottom upward and back into the tank.
The prism protein skimmer uses both Co-Current and Counter-Current water flow. It uses a turbo-jet impeller which creates constant stream of micro-bubbles.
A counter current is one of the methods used in aquarium water skimmers. The water to be processed enters the skimmer reaction chamber, then the air administered through a diffuser. The water flowing downward meets the bubble column flowing upward, this increases dwell time making the skimmer much more efficient.
