Question about Acer Aspire (AST180-US340B) PC Desktop

My DVD burner doesn't register a disc in the tray

Hello I have an Acer computer and it has Media Edition as an OS. I am trying to burn my pictures and audio onto DVDs but I cannot. I am using the NERO program that came pre-installed, and everything works until I get to the window that prompts me to insert the disc, I do this and it says the tray is empty. This is very frustrating and I am not sure how to fix it. I have all my photos from years past and I can't do anything with them or share them with anyone. I have checked in my Device Manager and it says that the device is working properly....I don't know what the problem could be. Please help!

How do i uninstall the drives? Also, I bought the computer second hand and was given a disk simply called drivers. Is this what I would need to reinstall the driver?

Try uninstalling the drive, then reinstalling, and/or updating the firmware to the drive (see CDinfo.com ) to see if Windows (XP? Vista?) Media Edition sees it properly. I swear I had to shake my PC for Windows to act right enough on my writers....

You can of course also run Knoppix or another liveCD from another drive and manage to burn DVDs that way. Likewise there might be some registry fixups around to set it right, but you can search Media Edition forums about that as well as I.

How to burn a dvd from an acer laptop

The laptop should have come with CD/DVD burning software preloaded. Acer's specs page for your model says it comes with NTI Media Maker. The program will have help information available to guide you through, and you can find more help online. If you just want to write data files onto a DVD, the process typically is not much more than dragging files to a layout window and telling the program to burn the disc. This gives you a way to back up data, or to store movies in formats you can view on a computer (AVI, MPG, etc.).

On the other hand, if you're asking how to make a video DVD that will play in a regular DVD player like a commercial movie, maybe with features like menus or scene selection and such, the process for making that kind of DVD is more involved. You need some DVD authoring software. NTI may offer that capability, but I'll admit I have never looked.

In most cases, the software that comes preloaded on computers is a limited version of some commercial product. The computer manufacturers get paid to include the program, and the software company hopes you'll buy the full version when you discover the limitations. If you don't want to pay for software, there are free, more full-featured programs available for downloading.

For general CD and DVD burning, I use CDBurnerXP. To make video DVDs, I use a program called DVDStyler. Both are open-source, meaning they are 100% free to download and use, and they both offer a lot of features.

Disc stuck in dvd drive. tries to spin. won't eject. (emachines desktop with xp home

There is a small pin hole below the tray. Straighten a paper clip and gently push it in this hole. The tray will unlock and pop out slightly, then pull the tray out and remove the DVD disc.

Will not burn a cd anymore, trying to burn a cd of pictures, keeps saying insert a recordable disc, I AM, they are all new ones I put in!

Try the "new" disks in another computer.
Or, try "new" disks made by a different manufacturer.

I suspect that your CD-drive has "died".
So, for less than $50, you can buy a brand-new CD/DVD device for a desktop computer.

Burning dvds with realplayer

DVD discs come in two capacity sizes.
Single layer DVD have a capacity of 4.7 Gb
Dual layer DVD have a capacity of 8.5 Gb
Some DVD burners are single layer burners only and cannot burn dual layer discs.
The error message you are getting would indicate that the disc you are using is not large enough to copy all your program material.

EZCD 5.0 and EZCD 6.0

I don't think that 6 and 5 are compatible 6 is an upgrade from 5. I have just 5 on one of my old XP computers and it works fine, but that's all I have. I went to the website and they are not giving any support for Roxio 6 anymore.
I will tell you that Roxio Easy Media Creator is fantastic. The things you can do with that are unbelieveable. I got it at Sam's Club for about $70. But I know that does not solve your problem.

Roxio 5
To burn data files, Open project selector, make a data cd, click data cd project. WhenEasy CD Creator 5 opens and you choose your files to burn, try this: Select Disc at Once Radio button, click okay and click burn.

OS: Issue When burning a CD or DVD, you receive an error, burning does not complete, or your media is rejected. Resolution Burning errors can happen for a variety of reasons. Roxio has found that doing the following steps resolves about 80% of all burning issues. Please give all these steps a try and see if it fixes your writing problems.

  1. Update your drive's firmware/drivers. Most companies regularly update their firmware and drivers. If you are unsure what model your burner is and its firmware, click here to find out.

  2. Enable DMA. Direct Memory Access enables better efficiency of data. For more info, check how to enable DMA.
  3. The media. Check the following:
    • The disc is clean and unused.
    • The media is recommended by your burner's manufacturer or try a different brand, preferably a name brand, if you continue to have problems.
    • Make sure that media (-R/+R, -/+RW, dual-layer compatibility) is supported by the burner by checking burner's manual or manufacturer's website. This is especially true for some Blu-Ray burners which do not support CD-R/RW media.

  4. If your burner is external, make sure it is connected directly to the computer via USB/Firewire and not a hub or other other device like a sound card.
  5. Update to the latest PX Engine. The PX Engine improves compatibility with newer burners on the market.
  6. A reinstall of the burner's drivers may also help.
    • Windows XP: Go to My Computer and choose Properties.
    • Windows Vista: Go to Start --> Control Panel --> System and Maintenance --> Device Manager.
    • Click on the Hardware tab.
    • Select Device Manager
    • Expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives, then select your burner and uninstall it by right -licking on it.
    • Reboot.

I do know if you have Roxio5 you cannot installed Nero 6 InCD, not compatible. Other than all of the above, I have no more suggestions. I am really sorry, wish I could work on your computer to figure out the problem. This is my specialty. Reloading computer and figuring out problems. It is so much easier hands on.
Good Luck
