StopBadware.org released a badware alert
about PC SpeedScan Pro today:
We find that PC SpeedScan Pro is badware because it does not
disclose the fact that it installs additional "Performance Center"
software and fails to remove this software when PC SpeedScan Pro is
uninstalled, and because it repeatedly displays notifications that
exaggerate the performance impact of various ‘errors’ found on users’
computers, in order to induce users to purchase the full version of the
The software was distributed via a website called finallyfast.com.
We attempted to contact the software publisher, Ascentive, via e-mail,
but we did not receive a response.
We currently recommend that users do not install PC SpeedScan Pro,
unless users are comfortable with the behaviors we have identified or
until the application is updated to be consistent with the
recommendations made in this alert.
I had been hearing a lot of good things about the Ascentive
Software release of PC SpeedScan Pro. It claims to get those gigabytes
of data you have accumulated straightened out and get your computer
running like new again. PC SpeedScan claims to fix registry errors that
can make your computer slow while it sorts through the errors as you
are accessing your programs and files. Apparently it does not work too
well. See our recommended computer optimization programs here.
After hearing some of the complaints about the Ascentive software
, you may want to stick with computer optimization programs that have stood the test of time. Here are some good reviews on SpeedUpMyPC 2009
, TuneUp Utilities 2008
, and Optimize 2.0
- definitely worth a look!
I would personally recommend ncleaner
. It has been my hands-down champion for months now.
Trust me Albert, stay away from the ascentive con-artist program. ncleaner will clean up your machine, and I also recommend you scan with Spybot, as Ascentive might have dumped some cookies on yr machine.
Good Luck and Season's Greetings!
