My emachine is slow loading and constantly buffin, not being able to watch movies on utube My final question is how do I know my computer needs to be upgrade other that the fact that the emachine is an...

Well, the buffering on you tube is purely proportional with the speed of the internet connection you have, it means that the video plays faster than that which your internet connection is able to load, thus it starts to buffer.

To solve this you need to upgrade your internet connecting, upgrading the performance of your computer itself will have no effect on the internet connection.

As for the upgrading of your desktop, if you are happy with the performance, you don't need to upgrade. Most common upgrade is ram modules, which makes loading programs and such faster.

I would say a good method of knowing it is time to upgrade is to have a look if the parts for your computer is still widely available, if so, and you are happy with the performance, don't upgrade. If the parts for your desktop is discontinued of not very widely available, i would say it is a good choice to upgrade. Hope this can help you.

Kind regards

Using CCleaner to speed up slow Computers

Computers have 2 main types of memory that the user has control over. Memory that is on a Hard disc Drive and memory that is in RAM. When a program runs it loads its data from the Hard Disc Drive into Ram. Now, usually we have lots of extra Hard Disc Drive space but not necessarily Ram and if your computer is sluggish reducing the programs running at any time may greatly boost performance.

Now when you install a program a lot of the times it adds itself to startup meaning every time your computer is turned on that program starts. Now you may only use that program once a week but its continuously running wasting resources. Managing your startup programs with a free program called **** Cleaner can greatly increase performance.

download CCleaner from and install it

run the program and select the tools tab on the left of its windows

next click on start-up

you will see a list of entries under start-up now technically you don't need any of these running for windows to work, however you may want say windows live messenger running in the background the whole time so pick and choose which ones you wish to disable from start-up.

I personally like to disable and remove every start-up program. I only like programs running when I tell them to run, and not wasting resources.

cheers

djbr1ck

5 Routines to Speed up Your PC

1. Avoid Crowded Desktop

Do you have thousands and thousands of tiny little icons filling up your desktop? Each time our operating system loads it uses the memory to load all the files in the desk top; every time you refresh your computer it also steals your time to reload all the files in the desktop. So my word of advice is ‘KEEP YOUR DESKTOP CLEAN’. Keep only the important shortcuts in the desktop, keep your files in other folders say for example My Documents or in other Drives, etc.

2. Viruses, Malwares and Spywares

Every computer is prone to malwares; when it comes to windows machines they are more vulnerable. Regularly check your computer with a good antivirus software and an anti spyware software (Avast and Ad-Aware are two good free software for this purpose). Also using a firewall will help you prevent some attacks. Performing Regular Virus and Malware checks can help your computer stay healthier and thus improve performance.

3. Unused Programs

Most of us install programs for short period usages. If you have any program that you are no longer using, remove the unwanted programs (Revo Uninstaller is good software that can help you remove unwanted programs effectively). This can help you increase your computer’s performance.

4. Remove Programs from Startup

Have you ever noticed tons of tiny little icons in the right end of your task bar? They can cause your machine slow down dramatically because many of those programs start with your operating system and thus use the valuable resources we need to perform our activities.
You can remove them: Go to Start Menu -> Run and type msconfig and go to the startup tab. Remove all the programs you don’t want to start with your windows by de selecting them.

5. Optimise your hard disk performance

With time the hard disks get filled with fragmented files, corrupted files and temporary files, etc. This can cause your system to perform really slowly. If you don’t regularly check your hard drive for errors and defrag it then it can be deadly.

If you can follow these five suggestions regularly then you will have a stable performance from your pc. Stay tuned for other tips.

Best Regards

Hard drive keeps shuting off

That it disconnected your load and didn't provide battery backup suggests that the noise is on your end...maybe you're plugging hair dryers in with the PC? If not, get all the data you can from the APC logs and from calling APC and decide whether your powersupply is going bad or the APC thing is due for some warrantee service. If you were running fractional-horse motors and heaters and A/C from the APC...stop it.

En d?marrant mon ordinateur, j'ai toujours le m?me message d'erreur : c:\program Files\ascentive\performance center\APCMain.exe abnormal program termination comment faire pour m'en d?barasser

Salut Francoise,
'Ascentive' est un programme pour spyware, oui? Je recommande que vous désinstalliez 'Ascentive', et, téléchargez alors et installer un meilleur programme 'Spybot - Search and Destroy' appelé. C'est plus fiable et très simple pour utiliser. Je n'ai jamais eu n'importe quels problèmes avec spyware, puisque j'ai installé Spybot.

J'espère que ceci est serviable à vous. Bonne Chance!

Long time starting

This happens with older machines you are experiencing 2 problems. Problem one you need more ram. the reason you need more ram is that you have too many programs and services starting at once. I assume you are running windows xp. These dells shipped whith just enough memory to run the os and a few select programs. We are end users installing our own stuff like itunes, games, new printers, IM and others.
Restart the computer. let it boot up. click start>mycomputer>right click on my computer Click on the properties menu now click the advanced tab Click >Performance settings Now click best performance. click apply ok restart your computer is it faster? even marginally.. if so it is a ram issue. How many icons load up to the left of the clock more than 5 is an issue. that cna be addressed with msconfig..
