Question about Nikon CoolScan 9000 ED Film Scanner

1 Answer

Nikon coolscan 9000 won't start - no power, no green light

The scanner won't start at all.  I plugged it into a different outlet but had no luck.  I haven't used it in several months but the last time I used it it worked like a champ.  I moved several times since I bought the machine so of course the softward dvds are long gone.
I have a powerbook g4,, 17", and I am running leopard .
Thank you very much.

Have the same problem with the ED 8000, it is totally dead and stays dead after using different powercords etc. These scanners easily seem to break. And Nikon doesn't want to repair the old ones anymoren ;-(

My Nikon CoolScan 4000 is not working properly. All images come with a green shade

I had the same problem with coolscan LS 50 ed, but the chromatic dominant was blue instead. What you have to do is to perform a p.o.s.t. procedure: 1) swith off the scanner and unplug it from the PC; 2) switch off the PC; 3) remove the film-holder from the scanner; 4) switch on the scanner; 6) plug it back to the PC; 7) switch on the PC; 8) insert the slide/film holder. It should work now...

Nikon Coolscan 9000 not working w Mac Snow Leopard 10.6+

You're not going to be happy with this answer:

Nikon has formally sworn off doing ANY future software updates for their scanners. They stopped at 10.4 (pre-Leopard)

Yes, there are a LOT of people VERY unhappy with this answer, but we're all kind of stuck with it.

2) swithc off the PC
3) disconnect scanner from PC
5) remove the dia/film adapter
6) switch on tyhe scanner and wait untill it booted
7)insert the film/dia adapter

Nikon Coolscan 9000 ED can not be recognized by computer

I am having the exact same problem...cannot get the Coolscan 9000 to show up in Device Manager. One thing I did try (to no avail) was to run the regsweeper.exe file that comes with the Nikon scan disk. It clears your registry when you reinstall. It still did not work though so I have a lovely "shoebox" sitting next to my computer that is worthless!

Nikon Super Cool Scan 9000 ED doesn't start. No green light, no nothing.

There are now quite some cases on the internet mentioning that their ED 9000 (mine is a ED 8000) won't start anymore. These scanners easily seem to break, and Nikon offers no solutions at all, they even won't repair my 'old' 8000.

Nikon Coolscan 9000 not recognized by XP computer anymore....

I read and would like to thank, the person who mentioned this as a solution. It was stated that if you have more than one firewire on your computer, when you open the Nikon, both signals, or whatever happens in computerland, don't connect. Upon removing the drive in the other firewire, Nikon clicks in everytime. Answer: have only ONE active firewire at a time. You may need to unplug the cable to the scanner and reconnect. But that's it. I've not had any problems since

Not to sound rude, but are you inserting it with the arrows pointing into the scanner?  That is the first step. Afterwards makesure you have the scanner on and the green light is not blinking.

Nikon Coolscan 4000ED

Just curious... did you unplug the unit for a period of time, or did you only power it off? I would definitely unplug it for about ten minutes, then plug it back in.

Close the scan program --turn off and unplug the scanner---plug the LS9000 back in and turn it on----reopen the scan program--this is my method on my LS-8000--It does this quite often !
