He tried system restore. The deletion of the keyboard maybe has triggered this problem. When he brought up system restore, all his restore points were deleted.

My dell key board is not working

If it is a PS2 Keyboard you will need to plug it in while it is off for it to work. If it is a USB keyboard you will have to find the drivers for it online or use the disk the keyboard came with.

I have an usb adapter for old ps/2 keyboards, which I tried using for the Dell SK8110 Keyboard. But unfortunately, my laptop needs to install this keyboard's driver for it to function. Any idea where I can...

I think you do not need a driver. Generally ps2 keyboards are detected automatically and work just fine. Still you may go to device manager and un-install the keyboard from there. Then reboot the machine. When it starts again it should detect the modem again.
Note, if you are using a usb mouse please change it to ps2 mouse.

Keyboard doesn't work in MS word, works fine otherwise

Hi Friend
I think there might be 2 possible reasons for this problem:
1. There are some user defined macros created which is hampering your keyboard shortcuts.
Do this: Go to Tools -> Macros -> Macros -> Select for user defined macros (Macro1, Macro2, Macro3 and so on- these are user defined macros). ONce you get them, delete them or if they are required, give them some other short cut keys.

or:

Tools - Customise - > Keyboard (button at the bottom). Click on reset and this will reset all buttons.

2. Maybe the keyboard has some problem. You need to show it to a hardware engineer.

Let me know.

Trying to wipe a virus, now keyboard not recognized in systems

You're right about the virus'. I have to assume you're using and external keyboard. Download a copy of Dr. Web, Malware Bytes and Superantispyware. After all these get a chance to run I bet you'll be surprised at just how infected you really were.

Although rare, keyboards can die. I would go spend the 5 dollars and grab another keyboard.
