Question about Toshiba 57H83 57" Rear Projection HDTV

Open Question

Suddenly my tv is not getting a signal from the cable box

The following error message showed up yesterday and has continued even though the cable company came out to replace the box. DVI ALERT: YOUR HDTV DOES NOT SUPPORT HDCP, PLEASE DISCONNECT THE HDMI CONNECTOR AND USE THE YPRPB CONNECTION. This was never an issue before, can you give me some suggestions.

Your problem is probably the tuner in the back of your tv. I had the same problem. I ordered a new tuner. The model number for it is  CF36G40

Your cable company should be able to supply an HD settop box that has component video output for HD. I have one from Cablevison. It is a Scientific Atlanta (SA) 4200HD.

Some of the newer TV's dont turn on if there is no input signal. Try a DVD player and see if that works. If it does, then the issue is most likely with the cable jack on the TV, which may need to be replaced..

Signals to the tv from other sources and the image is P and G

Soon as though you have your wiring mixed up. Those leads, colors you describe are for Compnent Video signal....Red Green Blue. Now  the Others  are for Audio Visual signal , Yellow, Red, White... They are NOT compatable. IE: You cannot mix them. Check in your manual as to what  types of lead is needed how to wire it up..

I do not get complete picture ie picture continually breaks up (pixilates) as does sound, even sometimes no signal but only for a short time.

If it only happens while watching an incoming signal from the cable company and not a DVD playing,
I went through this too on a rear projection HD TV.
If you have any splitters on the line to the TV eliminate as many branches to other devices as possible. They cause a drop in signal strength which is the problem. Make sure the cable is RG6 others are too weak to carry a good signal.
After going through many splitters and taking other things off I got a better signal. But it came down to the cable companys box out by the street had corroded metal components and when they changed that, the problem cleared and was even able to add all devises back to my signal splitter.
If is happening on a satellite dish then check and clean or replace cable connectors.

After the work we did with your rep to resolve the issue we determined that we did not have a means to fix the problem. Your rep suggested to call the cable provider and have them run a test signal. They said that would probably fix the problem, but if it didn't they may need to change the cable box. I contacted the cable company and they ran the test signal which did not work so yesterday the cable company sent a technician out and they changed the box. This corrected the problem and the HDTV is working great. Thanks for the help even though it did not work by your solution directly, you did lead me to resolve the problem.
thanks

Get closed captions on some channels, but not all, even though it is CC

RCA have choices for different methods of CC in user CC menu. Labelled T1, T2, etc. . Different selections are for different types of close caption. Tune to a signal (on your other TV) that has closed caption working.

Tune your RCA to the same signal. Change the T1,T2, etc settings until the closed caption for your signal appears.

If this doesn't work, try connecting analog video or VHF channel 3 (or other specified channel) to the TV. check CC. When TV stations, sat channels, sat receivers, cable boxes etc, convert analog video signals to HD, problems can result. Some equipment causes RCA TVs to do unexpected things with sound and closed caption.

If you use RF or video output, old analog video may look better on CH3 or video than on HD input and the CC will work more consistently. Watch HD signals on HD input, Analog signals on Video in or through the TV tuner . Many HD channels and programs are converted analog video and look poor on TV HD inputs.

Good Day, albertgaw;
Since TV is showing an image I would suspect the cable/sat box. Try rebooting box again, unplug or hold power button in for 5-8 seconds, be patient and allow several minutes to allow box to reset. If no fix call your provider to resend the signal, or arrange to have box replaced.
Good Luck, big IRISH.

Part of your message I cant really understand but if this helps you out at all, Try to get a new box from your service provider. I have been hearing other people having problems losing signal from HDMI enabled cable boxes, if it doesnt work then just try your standard Component cables, they can still output 1080p from an xbox 360 and thats better than the 1080i you will get from cable. Some TV's just dont keep the power flowing to the HDMI reciever for some reason or another. The component cables shouldn't give you any problems though. Good luck.
