Question about HP OfficeJet 7410 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Won't Scan I am trying to scan a document but keep getting this message first:  "Unable to connect to device" and then "Unable to communicate with TWAIN data source." It is an HP All-In-One psc 950 connected to a MacBook. I have no problems printing or copying. Thank you.

    OK, this is new to me to do.  How do I check the Firewalls....and then how will I know about the correct twain drivers?

    I have just learned from HP that the HP 950 scan does not work with mac os x v10.5.  Only the printing and copying functions work.


    Thank you for your suggestions and help!

    Check you Firewalls.. make sure you have the correct tain drivers installed.

I would suggest you to seek help at a Mac forum.. if it was Windows I could tell you...
I would suggest going to the HP site and look for the software, but for mac. and which mac version?

I would uninstall the software and reinstall.. good luck...

Please download and install the scan drivers on your computer from support.lexmark.com website. Make sure to properly filter the operating system and then click on the downloads tab, you may select the link under drivers "Complete drivers and software for setting up, configuring, and using your device" when you install you may customize and select the local scan drivers.

Scanner not working


Hi Jkey !

As per the information you have provided, I understand that you are receiving an error "No scan option refer to the documentation" on the printer, when you try to print from the front panel of the printer (I mean from the printer's side).

However, plz provide me the proper error message so that I can assist you in the best possible way. If you are unable to scan from the printer's side, then try to scan from the computer and check if it is working or not. It should work when you try to scan from the computer, if not there may be a communication issue between the two devices.

To check the communication perform the below steps:

IF the printer is connected via USB cable, then perform below steps:

To isolate the issue I suggest you to try scanning from the Windows Image acquisition(WIA) wizard on the computer.

Follow the below steps to Scan using WIA
1.Verify that the all-in-one product power is turned on and the printer cable is properly connected.

2.Click Start then Click All Programs then Click Accessories then Click Scanner and Camera Wizard.

3.Follow the Scanner and Camera Wizard instructions to scan images to the computer.

If you are able to scan fine using the above steps, please write back to me along with the exact error message.

HP 1210 all in one scanner connection error


I found a solution to this...

1. Go to the Windows Start Button
2. Click on Programs
3. Click on Windows Fax and Scan
4. Use that program to scan documents

HP multi units are notorious for scanner failures. It is just a weak component in their machines. I have seen this time and time again. The only solution is to change the scanner out or purchase a different machine. Just keep in mind the notoriety HP has which failed scanners. If you want to venture into the replacement of the scanner the following website might have the product you are looking for. Otherwise, search around the net for a scanner assembly unit for the OJ7310. But, be prepared scanner units are not cheap.

Hi Lynn,

Unfortunately, HP.com doesn't have a very satisfying online solution to your problem. Still, there are a few things you can try.

The first is a general diagnostic check of your scanner. HP provides a doc that takes you through some steps, many of which you probably already tried, to see if it's a simple fix:

An error occurred while communicating with scanning device

The next document is a set of diagnostic steps to address errors trying to scan to a PDF:

I don't know if the current situation was created by a fault in the device or some recent change in your configuration settings. I do know you can use the HP Director software installed on your computer to set the scan destination settings:
