Question about Pride Maxima 4-Wheel 4-Wheel Scooter

1 Answer

New 55ah batteries but charge won't last.

My scooter is 4 years old. I have bought new batteries less than every 12 months. 55ah, gel. The batteries tested good but they wear down very quickly. I go to Walmart with a full charge, and before I am finished shopping, they are almost dead. Then I have to be pushed or wheelchaired to my car. Can anyone help?

Battery life is affected by many things. But inside a tiled space like Walmart is probably the best possible running conditions. Make sure your tires are fully inflated, and you may need to have the motors check for worn brushes or maybe the wheel bearings are dry. Does the scooter push hard when in free-wheel mode? You may also need to have your charger checked, to be sure your batteries are really being fully charged.

Wont charge up, batteries showing between 3 and 4 volts, batteries less than 12 months old. Charger ok brand new

The batteries are to low for the auto charger to work so either replace batteries or have them load tested to see if they are any good. Personally I would replace them.

Yvonne,

When you say that you put in a new battery, I hope you mean new batteries. This particular scooter takes 2 batteries and just changing one will leave the remaining one in poor condition. Make sure that you have replaced the batteries with the correct size and type. This scooter takes 2, 40 amp hour batteries. Sealed gel AGM batteries are preferred. The batteries should have the number 40 on them with a date code. You need new, fresh batteries to have them work properly. A date code tag of A1 indicates the A month(1st month) or January of 2011 (1 is for 2011). If you are not sure of the battery condition a local shop can load test them for you.
There is a possibility with a 5 year old scooter that a worn motor/brake will cause excessive current draw and drain your batteries. A qualified technician can determine this for you with a service call.
Hope this helps.

ggirl why did you buy a pig in the poke they should refund your money because the batteries should have a six month warranty. Now always ask for the date code on batteries you are buying they shouldn't be any older than 4 months old. There are good batteries out there but if I offend anyone I'm sorry but MK batteries are very good also Interstate batteries and probably others that I'm not aware of. The best way to insure good batteries are buying fresh batteries, Charge them before you use the chair and always get into the habit of charging overnite if you use the chair daily. Never leave the charger plugged in more that 12 hours and if you don't use the chair daily charge at least once a week and always put up fully charged. Mk recommends charging the batteries daily for the first 20 days. Never run the batteries or let them fall below the red light on your battery level indicator. Your chair runs on about a 5 volt range (26-21 volts) after that the red light blinks like crazy. If it falls below 20 volts the charger will not charge the batteries. If you take care of them they should last you 3 years or more. Hope this helps

I just bought a new battery charger cable called (Sealed Lead-Acid Charger) to replace an older (Lead Acid battery charger). The New Battery charger will charge for about 2 to 5 minutes and then stop...

ismail the charger you bought should do the job. By stop charging do you mean the light on the charger turns from yellow to green? Your scooter has small batteries 12/12 and don't require along period of charging. Now the scooter has a heat sensor for the batteries and will cut off charging when temp of the batteries gets too high. The older charger could have overcharged your batteries and made them weaker instead of stronger. I would suggest you replace the batteries (2 12/12AH) and charge them with the new charger. Remember to reinstall the heat sensors on each battery when replacing. If you have a digital voltmeter set it to 200 v dc and put the leads into the 2 outer plugs in the charger port on the battery pack. You should read 24-26 volts dc when the batteries are fully charged anything less would mean weak batteries. Hope this helps you

Kymco midi foru, less than 6 months old batteries will not charge.

This will be due to the batteries being left uncharged for a long period of time. Should ideally be charged once a fortnight for at least 12 hours if the scooter is not used for any period of time. Unfortunately, the only real solution is new batteries.

hi, the charger unit is breaking down, Sometimes the batteries can cause this problem but I think you find it the charger, when batteries get older they simply don't hold the charge as much as when new, also the way they deliver power can drop off quicker.
