    Still didn't work

  • molson35 Nov 22, 2008

Tried all of the below and still doesn't work. Also, our remote does not have a light on the top. It has a red transparent led and it is showing nothing. Almost seems like there is no power in the remote? I was wondering if it had some type of code or something, almost like the universal remotes do?

  • molson35 Nov 22, 2008

No, but we did buy the Sony DVD / VCR

Could it possibly be not having sound on some channels to deal with the TV inside? If you have it on a channel that has sound and switch to a channel that doesn't have sound, you can actually hear a little blip where the sound wants to come on but just can't finish.

  • molson35 Nov 22, 2008

We have direct cable hook up and no other TVs' in the house are doing the same thing.

  • molson35 Nov 22, 2008

We just bought it the last week in October this year.

  • molson35 Nov 22, 2008

Thank you very much. We really didn't know where to begin and the thought was to have to pack the TV back up and take it to the store we purchased it. Really didn't want to go through all that! I will definately use you in the future if we have any issues with other TVs'.

LAst question and we'll throw in the towel. How long ago did you purchase the TV? Is it less than 1 year old?

I have seen the problem with no sound on TV's connected to a cable box with an HDMI cable. If that is the way the TV is connected, it is a problem with the cable box. Let's assume you have a bad remote and work on the no sound problem. Tell me if you are using cable, satellite or using the tuner in the TV. If you have cable or satellite, how is it connected to the TV?

If it is the original Sony remote, the code for your TV is already programmed in the remote. You can check the remote another way if you have a camcorder that works. Do you have one?

Let's work on the possibility that something is interfering with the remote. ANY infrared source can interfere with it, especially another remote that may be defective and sending out a signal. So try removing the batteries from any other remotes you have or put them in a drawer away from the TV. Try turning the TV in a different direction so that anything sending interference out won't be aimed at the TV, and then try the remote again. Also, does your Sony remote have a light that glows when you press the buttons? If so, does it light when you press the buttons that don't do anything

It is possible something is interfering with the remote signal, either that or the remote itself has failed. You could try a master reset on the TV and see if that helps. Using the remote, hold down the "UP" button, which is located in the circular area of the remote (there are 4 keys for left right up and down, and a center key for making a selection) While holding down the UP button on the remote, press the power button on the TV. The TV must be on in order to do this. Please try this reset and let me know what happens.

OK then it's time to get professional help from Sony. As a technician that works on Sony TV's everyday, I would start with the QM and QT boards and the remote control, but it could also be the BU board, because that would be a common part for BOTH of your problems, the remote and the sound problem. I'm sorry I can't fix this for you tonight, but we gave it our best try. You need to call Sony customer support at 800-222-SONY and have them generate and EVENT number and start the process to get your set serviced. Once you are in their system, they will recommend servicers in your area that can fix the TV for you. The good news is that with Sony, if you pick one of the platinum servicers that Sony recommends, the servicer will talk to you on the phone, attempt to figure out what parts your TV needs and send the tech out with parts so hopefully it can be repaired in one trip. Save this exchange we have had this evenning so you can detail all of the steps we went through together as it will save time and hopefully point the servicer in the right direction. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Be sure to get the event number from Sony and keep it as it will help you and them track the repair of your TV. You have a good TV in Sony, don't think you got a lemon because you are having problems. If some of the TV's didn't fail they wouldn't need a warranty and I wouldn't have a job.

My viewsonic n2751w tv will not stop channeling down... have to put weight on top to stop

mmm sounds like a sticky channel switch on your tv itself. Spray some special stuff called Contact cleaner spray available at any electrical outlet or hobbyshop - its a little bit expensive but works great to clean motherboards and most other electrical equipment. Spray while the tv is off and press buttons in between sprays

Sharp LC-37DB5U stuck on one channel. Won't respond to anything. Put in a new motherboard and same problem persists. Sound and picture are fine

I could be wrong, but it sounds like the TV hasn't gone through channel setup. You have to do this in order for the TV to "learn" the channels, assuming you are using cable. If you are using cable run channel search in the setup menu and see if that changes anything. Can you change channels by manually entering in the channel # and hitting enter?

Channel changer from the remote? or from the TV? if it is from the remote, that's an easy fix, take off the batteries open the back of the remote, clean the circute board the one that is painted green, clean the remote contact pads as well the one that has a black dot like thingy with cotton balls slightly damp in rubbing alcohol, let it dry put it back together and replace with a new battery.

Our universal remote will put up the menu on the sanyo tv but will not let us scroll to All Channel Search, what can we do?

can you change the channel thru your TV though. if you can then the remote is at fault. Try fixing your remote control.

Take off the battery, open the back of your remote, lift the circuit board, clean the green painted part with cotton balls slightly damp with rubbing alcohol as well as the black thingy behind your remote pad, let it dry put it back together, replace with a new battery and try if it works.

Older person cannot handle two remotes

You can program most satelite remotes to work on any device. Most are universal. If not, I suggest purchasing a universal remote. You can view remote codes online to program your device to your remote. New ones come with instrucions and codes.

Remote stopped working

You can look at the IR beam coming from a remote control using electronic cameras, like camcorders or webcams, if you want to see whether the remote is actually working. It doesn't sound like the remote is your problem. But it is probably your TV. IR receivers don't go out too often, but it can happen. You can try holding the remote directly in front of the receiver.

Tv won't stop changing channels

You need to isolate the problem.
1) Unplug the set for a few seconds then plug it in.
2) Operate the TV with the control/buttons on the TV. (Channels etc)
If the TV operates correctly then do the following.
3) Try operating with the remote unit. If the problem returns then it's the remote failing.

Sometime remotes can be reset.
Try this;
Step 1- Pull the batteries out of the remote and leave them out until Step 4.
Step 2- Press and release each and every button one at a time on the remote control until every button has been pressed and released at least once!
Step 3- If your remote has slide switches, you must move the switch to each position then repeat the button pushing in Step 2.
(When you're done, be sure to put the slide switch in the correct position to operate the unit the remote came with!)
Step 4- Put the batteries back into the remote, being very careful to install them correctly.
New batteries should be used if you're not sure about the old ones.

Try it again. If the problem is still there then the remote is bad.
Since this is a new TV you should use your warranty to replace any bad parts.

Tv does not respond to remote commands

You need to isolate the problem.
1) Unplug the TV for a few seconds and then plug it back in.
2) Operate the TV with the buttons on the TV. (Channels etc) I presumed you have scanned in the channels.
If no problem found then do this for the remote.

Now try the remote to see if it works. If it fails you will need a new remote.
