Question about Kodak EASYSHARE 5500 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Having troubles with fax not dialing out

Easyshare 5500 -- i can not fax out when the setting "Disable call waiting" is set to yes. I can hear a dial tone then suddenly a recording telling me that it is not necessary to dial a one, etc...I am not dialing a one. If i change the setting "disable call waiting" to "no", i can send out a fax. Sometimes i can't even fax out when the "disable call waiting" is set to "no", it will ring off the hook and tell me that the line is busy and keep redialing the number. Could it be this printer or something else?

    What the "disable call waiting" feature does I'll never know. The only true way to disable call waiting on this P.O.S. is to add a comma preceeding the number that you are faxing.

How to delete and program in speed numbers for fax

Create speed dial entries for fax numbers that you use frequently. The number of speed dial entries you can set up depends on the HP device. For more information, see the specifications for the HP device.

Fax machine error

I called Kodak support and had to upgrade firm software and reset all the settings to reflect whether I had an answering machine (yes) and call waiting (no). Also found it helpful sometimes to dial out using commas after the 1, to keep it from ringing busy.

Problems to SEND a fax

I'm not sure what you mean entirely but this could help.

Usually sending faxes are only a problem if:

You have the printer set up correctly. (Phone line must be in line 1) or your phone line digital, which the product does not support unless you have a filter.

Also, if by different dial tone you mean "distinctive ring," that also is not supported by the product.

This 5500s don't receive faxes if you have voicemail. You can still send faxes. Just make sure Disable call waiting is set up correctly in Fax Settings

Fax machine

what do you mean? you cant send? or you cant receive fax?

first know if you are using a digital or analog line. if youre using digital line you need to have a micro filter and it must be connected to the fax line. if you have an answering machine it must be connected at the back of the printer(EXT-2) to make it work. then on your printer press menu and then choose fax settings
answering mode must be YES(if you have an answering machine)
rings to answer is 1 ring less than your answering machine
disable call waiting must be set to NO.

let me know what happen

My model Kodak 5500 printer/fax

Just found your post and I'm having the same problem. Everything else seems to be working correctly. I can copy, scan, print and I THINK I can send a fax correctly, I should have called the person and made sure it arrived. However, I cannot receive faxes. I have an answering machine on the line, but it is not plugged into the Kodak Pinter, it is in another room. The answering machine answered the call, the FAX noise came across, but the Kodak Printer never picked it up and printed out the fax. I think I have all the settings correct, but the instructions are not very clear. Do you think I HAVE to have the answering machine plugged into the Kodak Printer? That doesn't make sense, but I might try it.

Fax machine

I have the opposite problem, I can send but not receive! For sending, make sure your phone line is plugged into the "1-LINE" in the back of the machine, put your pages face up on the top of the machine, press the "FAX" button, type in the phone number and hit start. Maybe you've done this exactly and you have some sort of error?

Faxing problem

1) Plug a single line wired (not cordless) phone in to the exact same phone jack as the fax machine and dial one of the fax numbers you are trying to dial out to using the exact same digits. Does the call complete Y/N? do you hear a fax tone Y/N?
>>>>If either answer is "No" you have an invalid phone number. If both answers are "Yes" proceed to step 2.

2) When you off hook do you hear a "stutter" dial tone? Y/N?
>>>>>"Yes" This is your phone company telling you that you have unlistened voicemail messages in your mailbox. Dial in to your voice mail and clear your messages. "No" go to step 3.

3) 2 part question: Do you have call waiting and is your fax machine trying to disable call waiting when dialing out?
>>>>>In many areas *70 (star-seven-zero) will disable call waiting for a single phone call. If you try to disable call waiting when call waiting is not on the line, the call will not complete. This may come in to play in a speed dial situation.
+++Other things to consider+++
*Is outgoing long distance blocked on the line?
*Is outgoing regional intralata (same area code) long distance blocked?
*Is local calling blocked?
*Is a speed dial misprogrammed? Forgot to dial "1" Dialed "1" in error?
*Is there a wiring problem? >>>Try moving fax machine to a different phone jack.

There may be no magic answer for your problem, I hope one of these suggestions helps.
