Re: folder is not accessible on win. xp sp2
You can try taking the hard drive out, connecting it to a usb to sata/ide cable and retrive the files. the other thing you can try is -Check Disc-
Open My Computer, right click on your Hard drive, select properties, the click on Tools, The select Error Checking, click to fix errors automatically, and automatically recover bad sectors..
you will have to restart computer, then it will run check disk...
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Have you tried to copy the compressed folder from the disc to your computer desktop and open it there? Give that a try and see if it works.... I have had this happen to a couple customers at work and I just copied the folder from the disc onto the desktop, opened it there and re-installed it. Or you could also try a repair install of the OS but it does carry the possibility of losing your data and programs.
You need to download all the drivers installer files from manufacturer website first, and also all the software you want to install automatically with Windows. Then you build a Windows Xp boot CD with all the software setup embedded.
If XP will not install from the CD or if you have a new drive with no operating system onit yet try these:
Install Windows XP from the hard drive with Windows 98 already installed:
Boot Windows 98 Insert the XP CD into your CD reader Explore Windows XP through My Computer Copy i386 folder to C:\ Go into C:\i386 folder and double click on winnt32.exe to launch the setup from the hard drive
Install Windows XP from DOS (ie. no OS on a new hard drive):
Boot with a Windows 98 Start Up disk Insert the Windows 98 CD into the CD reader Run smartdrv.exe from the Win98 directory on the windows 98 CD (file caching) Type cd.. to back up to the root directory Insert Windows XP CD into the CD reader Copy the i386 folder to C:\ Go into C:\i386 folder on C: and type winnt.exe to launch the setup from the hard drive.
This will sound off the wall, but we had something similar to this happen with my last laptop, where it was "access denied" in lots of areas, and we would have to find little backdoor ways to get into control panel and document files. The problem with our computer was that it had previously crashed, and we had rebooted and reinstalled the xp, but didn't have the registration number, so it would run ok, but to get into all those access denied things (which you eventually need to get into) we had to come up with our registration number.
Did it prompt you to enter the product key when you re-installed it?
Hi niket_shah, sorry but you're board Asus M2N-MX, does support Win XP SP2.
Chances are that while installing windows updates one or more updates failed. People like myself know from repairing PC's which updates need to be installed first. If you're Win XP SP2 did not or would not install than either the Win CD is not a valid Microsoft Win XP SP2 CD or (You have a copy) & there is something wrong with the CD. After a fresh (New install) of Win XP with SP2 there is more than 90+ updates for SP2 which must be downloaded through windows update program. Or you're windows will not function properly.
Just to show you what versions of windows the M2N-MX board does support. Click the link listed below. Once the link loads click the + sign next to Audio. Scroll down the page an notice the different Window version listed for you're board. http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=M2N-MX&SLanguage=en-us
To recap this issue. The problem is either the WinCD or possibly you're hard drive. Make sure you allow windows to perform a full format before installing window. (Not a quick format).
1. Windows Xp installation disk 2. Access to PC with working CD Cd-ROM DVD drive. 3. This file solution.rar
This guide is for people with basic knowledge of PC hardware and system software Let's start.
1. Download solution.rar file 2. Unpack solution.rar file on drive C, you should have a folder named C:\Dos 3. Put your pendrive ( at least 1GB) into working PC USB port 4. Go to the folder C:\Dos and run HpUSBformat.exe file - it should auto detect wyour pendrive disk, if not select form the list ( my pendrive is a drive G: ) - set other options like on the image below and click start.
- now you have a pendrive with bootable dos on it. 5. Copy all other files from C:/Dos to your pendrive. ( you can overwrite existing ones) - your pendrive should look like that
6. Put your Windows Xp installation disk into Cdrom and copy all files from CD to pendrive.
